If you wear hearing aids you may realise that they respond differently to speech and to music.

Music presents unique acoustic challenges: broader frequency ranges, greater dynamic variability, and emotional complexity that standard hearing aid algorithms can distort or suppress.

Music is deeply personal. Whether classical, jazz, or rock, it shapes identity and evokes memory.

At Buckingham Hearing Care we ensure our fittings go beyond audibility, so our patients don’t just hear the notes but they connect with the music.

🎆The skies will soon be lit up with colourful and loud firework displays this Bonfire Night. The dazzling sights may last only one night, but potential ear damage from the noisy explosions may cause long-lasting hearing loss🎆

🎆Noise-induced hearing loss can be caused by a single loud sound that we are too close to, such as the bangs and whizzes made by loud fireworks and firecrackers
🎆Hearing loss may be temporary or permanent, and it is important to take measures to protect your ears and reduce your risk of hearing loss

Read our new blog with tips on how to protect your hearing this Bonfire Night - and have fun!

Ok, not everyone loves being tickled but we loved receiving this review on Facebook recently 🥰

Amberly is a fantastic, professional and friendly practitioner who always welcomes me with open arms to tackle the build up of wax in my ears.
We always have a giggle and she’s always giving me top tips for aftercare!
She looks after other members of my family and friends and I’d never go anywhere else!
To be honest - I’d give her a visit weekly just for the chat and procedure - it tickles and is very satisfying! No pain….and over quickly!

Awwww, thank you Emily!🥰

Sometimes the ringing can be so persistent, it may feel like it is never going to stop and many of our clients say it is even worse when they are trying to get to sleep.

Try these tips for a good night’s sleep:
🔕Get up at the same time each day, even at weekends – don’t nap in the day or catch up on lost sleep as this won’t improve your sleeping pattern
🔕Think about room temperature and the bedding you use – if you’re too hot or too cold in your bed, you’re more likely to wake up during the night
🔕Reduce ni****ne and caffeine – both are stimulants that can keep you awake
🔕Don’t drink too much alcohol – it may help you get to sleep initially, but it can affect the quality of your sleep
🔕‘Wind down’ at least an hour before bed – have a warm bath or listen to relaxing music, and put your mobile devices away
🔕Switch the light off as soon as you go to bed and tell yourself that sleep will come. Don’t ‘try hard’ to go to sleep – resting in bed can be just as helpful
🔕Find a short relaxation exercise to try when you’re in bed
🔕Try listening to gentle music – this may relax you and distract you from your tinnitus

If you have a top tip that works for you when you are trying to get to sleep, please share them below 👇we would love to hear them!

For anyone suffering with tinnitus - it can be beyond annoying!

Everyone experiences tinnitus differently, and there are lots of treatments options to suit different people. We will recommend a treatment plan based on how you’re affected by tinnitus, and whether you have hearing loss or other ear conditions.

But here are 5 things you can do to help manage the impact tinnitus has on your everyday life
1️⃣Listen to soothing sounds - whether music or an app, it can help take your mind off tinnitus
2️⃣Practice relaxation exercises - when you’re stressed, you might notice your tinnitus more, and be more bothered by it. Relaxation exercises, yoga or mindfulness can help you to relax
3️⃣Protect your ears from loud noise - exposure to too much loud noise can damage your ears and worsen existing tinnitus
4️⃣There are devices designed to help people manage their tinnitus, such as tinnitus maskers, sound pillows & sound relaxation apps
5️⃣Find out more about tinnitus - understanding what tinnitus is and about the different causes and therapies might help to reassure you that it’s common and that there are different ways to manage it so that it doesn’t bother you

If you’re finding it hard to manage your tinnitus, get int touch to see how we can help or see your GP, who can help you get the support you need.

You may have been feeling like you cannot hear as well, despite wearing your aids still.... have you checked it is still working correctly?

🦻The battery may need to be changed. TEST IT! Do this by cupping your hand(s) around it when it is on- whistling indicates the hearing aid is working.
🦻Wax may be blocking the ear piece or tubing. Clean it as per the instructions you have been given.
🦻It may need to be repaired. Take it to a hearing aid technician or your audiologist to have a look at.

If you are not sure, give us a call or come in and we can take a look for you!

Today is World Sight Day - which is all about getting everyone to think about the importance of eye care for all.

Everyone has the right to accessible, available and affordable eye health and in the UK we are lucky enough to have eye care, available sight tests and affordable glasses available via the NHS where required - especially for our children.

So this World Sight Day - take two minutes to find more ways that you can and look after your eye health
👁️Follow the 20/20/20 rule to give your eyes screen breaks
🕶️Spend time outside - ideally two hours to help your eyes develop in a healthy way
🕶️Wear sunglasses outside - to protect from UVA & UVB
👓Wear prescription glasses, if you need them
👁️Check your cosmetics to avoid eye infections
🏃‍♂️Exercise regularly as conditions like diabetes or high blood pressure can affect your sight
🥘Eat a healthy diet
🚫Don't smoke
👁️Book an eye test to detect problems before they arise
❗Prioritise your eyes - you need them to last all your life

🎶Do you love listening to music or going to concerts?
🎶Do you take precautions to protect your hearing?

Worryingly, the majority of music lovers overestimate how long they can safely listen to loud music without hearing protection
🔊78% of concert goers are unaware that a concert, festival, gig or nightclub at 100 decibels could cause permanent hearing damage after as little as 15 minutes
🔊 with many wrongly believing they could listen safely without hearing protection for up to four hours

There are some simple things you can do to help protect your hearing:
🎶Take earplugs with you – they allow you to keep enjoying the music whilst protecting your ears
🎶Many festivals and music events also have disposable earplugs available for free
🎶Stand away from the speakers – even short bursts of loud noise can cause permanent hearing damage
🎶Take breaks – taking a break somewhere quieter for at least five minutes every hour will help your ears recover

Watch BBC Apprentice 2024 finalist, entrepreneur and musician, Tre Lowe's top three tips on how to protect your hearing when listening to music.

Wax is produced by the ear to protect the ear and keep it clean.

➡️Cotton buds should never be used not even for regular cleaning, as they may push wax further into the ear and damage the ear-drum.
➡️Sometimes the cotton may remain behind as a foreign body and cause a problem.

If you are think you have a build up of wax and would like to get them cleaned, we offer simple, painless, non-invasive service, find out more or book an appointment on our website
