We had the absolute pleasure of welcoming the incredibly talented Liz and Devinder from the award-winning creative arts team, IN2CULTURES, to Lace Hill this week! 🥁

Residents were captivated by their dynamic drumming performance, which brings together cultures from around the world. Liz and Devinder’s impressive highlights include performing everywhere from the House of Commons and the American Embassy to the Lunar Festival and a Curry Festival in Spain!
The benefits of experiences like this for our residents are wonderful, as exposure to diverse art forms and music broadens horizons, provides new learning opportunities, and fosters an inclusive community spirit. The rhythmic drumming and vibrant dancing are also fantastic for stimulating the brain, improving coordination, and encouraging MORE...movement in a fun, accessible way. Finally, music and dance are powerful mood boosters; they evoke joy, encourage emotional expression, and often spark happy memories and MORE...reminiscence, enhancing overall emotional well-being.

A huge thank you to IN2CULTURES for such an engaging and uplifting visit! We can't wait to have them back!

We're officially getting into the festive spirit here at Lace Hill! Our residents have been busy putting up beautiful Christmas decorations and creating their own unique Christmas trees in our Creative Club this week. 🎄✨

The joy and creativity flowing through the home have been wonderful. Engaging in these festive activities offers numerous benefits for our residents, as activities like decorating and crafting encourage mental stimulation through problem-solving and decision-making, along with enhancing MORE...creativity. The cheerful atmosphere and shared experience of decorating together also naturally lift spirits, helping to reduce feelings of isolation and sparking wonderful conversations and MORE...reminiscence about past holidays. Furthermore, completing a creative project or contributing to the home's festive look provides residents with a fantastic sense of achievement, belonging and purpose.

Seeing the smiles on everyone's faces and the beautiful results of their hard work truly makes the season bright. Stay tuned for more festive fun as we count down to Christmas!

It was good fun as we wrapped up the last of our monthly "Just Bowls" tournaments this week! A huge round of applause for Derick, who bowled his way to victory this month! 🏆

This tournament has been a wonderful addition to our activities planner, bringing a touch of friendly competition and excitement to everyone involved. The benefits of regular activities like bowls for our residents are fantastic, as it is a low-impact activity that helps improve coordination, balance and gentle mobility. Furthermore, the tournaments provide a fantastic opportunity for residents to have MORE...socialising and laugh together.

Congratulations again, Derick! Here’s to many more fun activities and competitions in the future!

National Movement Day might have been on Friday, but here at Lace Hill, we decided to celebrate the power of movement all week long! 🥳

Movement is so vital for both our physical and mental well-being, and we've loved seeing everyone get active. We had the amazing Move with Ruth to lead a fantastic session, alongside our brilliant Activities team who ran our regular classes.

We also enjoyed some friendly competition with games like Tin Can Alley, which is great for boosting coordination and accuracy, and Just Bowls, which promotes balance and social connection.

Every bit of movement counts, and the benefits are huge, from improving mobility and lifting our spirits to strengthening our minds and helping us feel more connected. Movement Matters, is not only about enhancing MORE…movement but MORE…socialising and connection too.

Thank you to everyone who took part!

Simple joys, big benefits! Team work makes the dream work!

Our lovely new Lifestyle team member, Michele, and Andy, who owns Leeder's Hardware in Buckingham, worked together to create this amazing fidget board which is now hanging and being used in our first floor lounge. A fidget board is designed to offer a variety of tactile and sensory experiences.

This wonderful tool helps keep hands busy, minds engaged, and reduces feelings of restlessness and anxiety. It's a great non-pharmacological way to support the well-being of those living with us, providing More... cognitive stimulation and focus, More... dexterity and enhanced motor skills and More... Calm.

Now, lets get fidgeting .......

We were pleased to host officers from Thames Valley Police last week for an important talk on fraud prevention. Scams are constantly evolving, and keeping our residents safe is our top priority.

The officers provided essential, practical tips to help everyone safeguard themselves against phone, post, email, and doorstep scams. We learned about not sharing bank details with strangers and knowing that police or banks will never ask for your card details over the phone.

The session was hugely beneficial, empowering our residents with increased awareness and confidence to spot and report potential fraud. This knowledge provides peace of mind for both our residents and their families.

A big thank you to Thames Valley Police for their invaluable advice!

We had an incredible day celebrating International Men's Day with a special visit from the local car club Milton Keynes Classic Car Club (MKCCC)!

Our residents' faces lit up as they explored the stunning vintage cars, sparking wonderful conversations and trips down memory lane which is great for MORE...socialising and reminiscing. Events like this are so important; they help reduce feelings of loneliness, stimulate memories for those with dementia, and remind everyone of their cherished past experiences and shared interests.

A huge thank you to Milton Keynes Classic Car Club (MKCCC) for making this day so memorable and special for the gentlemen (and ladies!) of our home!

We're proud to host a wonderful Gentleman's Club at Lace Hill every month! On the first Thursday of the month, the gents get together for our popular "Pie and a Pint" event. It's a great opportunity for relaxed chat, listening to music, and enjoying good company.

Our last get-together was a brilliant Bonfire Special, complete with a fun quiz about Guy Fawkes and bonfire night traditions! We always welcome relatives and friends to join in the fun too.

These monthly clubs are fantastic for building friendships and providing a relaxed social environment. We look forward to seeing everyone at the next one, a Christmas Special!

What a fantastic week we’ve had here at Lace Hill.

Those living with us have been busy from start to finish, embracing a wide range of activities designed to boost their physical and mental wellbeing. We had some delicious fun making pizza muffins, a social activity that encourages interaction and MORE...creativity.

In addition, we enjoyed MORE...fresh air with walks outside this week, which has been wonderful for everyone’s mood and physical health. Our regular visit from Ruby the Pets as Therapy dog brought endless smiles and comfort, with animal interaction being great for emotional health. To keep our residents moving, we used the Motiview Bike and had Fitness with Alfie, enhancing MORE...movement and keeping hearts healthy.

We also welcomed a lovely lady who gave us an educational bee talk and delicious honey tasting, which stimulated cognitive function and provided new learning opportunities. Our creative side also came out as we made colourful fireworks for Guy Fawkes using forks with the help of students from Lace Hill Academy.

Finally, we welcomed back students from Stowe School who helped run our weekly bowls club, fostering fun competition and teamwork. Every activity provides opportunities for residents to engage, laugh, and live life to the fullest and we love keeping them active and connected to our community.
