✨ Let’s Talk About Hypermobility ✨

Ever been told you’re “double-jointed”? That might actually mean you’re hypermobile! 🦋

Hypermobility is when your joints move beyond the normal range of motion.

For some, it’s just a fun party trick 🤸‍♀️ — for others, it can come with pain, fatigue, and instability.

✨ Did you know?

Hypermobility affects around 10–15% of the population, and for many people, it causes no problems at all.

In fact, in activities like ballet, gymnastics, or figure skating, that extra flexibility can even be an advantage!

But why are some people more bendy? 🤔

Research suggests that joint hypermobility often runs in families.
It’s thought to be linked to differences in collagen, a key protein that gives our tissues strength and elasticity.

👧Children are naturally more flexible, but that doesn’t always mean they’re hypermobile — flexibility often decreases as we grow.

💡 Common signs:

🫥Frequent sprains or dislocations

🫥Chronic joint pain or “clicking”

🫥Soft or stretchy skin

🫥Trouble with balance or coordination

It’s not always just flexibility — it’s about how your connective tissue works.

People with hypermobility spectrum disorders (HSD) or Ehlers-Danlos syndromes (EDS) often need special care, strength training, and pacing strategies to protect their joints. 💪

If this sounds familiar, you’re not alone — and support is out there. 💜

💬 If you’re concerned about joint instability or frequent sprains, I can assess your joints and create a personalised plan to keep you strong, stable, and moving confidently. 💪

At long last time has come for our wall at the back of house and patio to be built.

Those of you coming on Wednesday there’ll be a cement mixer and a pump on the driveway on Wednesday morning so the drive will be passable on foot but you’ll probably need to park your cars on the road. They’re hopefully moving off at lunchtime but those of you booked in Wednesday morning I’ll give you a call on Tuesday.

Sorry for any inconvenience caused.

Hopefully it will be short lived.

Thanks for all your support🥰

✨ How Osteopathy Helps Your Body Heal Itself ✨

Osteopathy is a hands-on approach to health that focuses on how your body’s structure—your bones, muscles, and connective tissues—work together.

When everything moves freely and functions smoothly, your body can perform at its best and even heal itself more efficiently.

At its core, osteopathy is all about balance and connection.

It’s not just about treating one sore spot—it’s about understanding how different parts of your body affect each other. For example, a previous ankle injury could subtly change the way you walk, eventually causing tension or pain in your knees, hips, or lower back.

Osteopathy looks at that bigger picture. 🌿

👐 How it works:

Osteopaths use a range of gentle, hands-on techniques designed to restore movement, reduce tension, and improve circulation. Every treatment is tailored to you and your unique needs.

Here are some of the techniques that may be used:

💆 Massage: Releases tight muscles and encourages better blood flow.

🤸 Stretching: Helps improve flexibility
and relieve stiffness.

🔄 Articulation: Gently moves joints through their natural range of motion.

💥 Manipulation: A quick, precise movement that can help free up a restricted joint (sometimes with that satisfying “pop” sound!).

The goal of these techniques is to restore balance and function, reduce pain, and support your body’s natural ability to recover.

Osteopathy also goes beyond the treatment room. Many osteopaths offer personalised advice and or exercises on posture, movement, and lifestyle to help you stay healthy and prevent problems from returning. 🧘‍♀️

If you’re looking for a holistic way to improve your mobility, reduce pain, and support your overall wellbeing, osteopathy might be just what your body needs. 🌿

Get too know a little more about me……👇

So as many of you know I am an experienced osteopath and acupuncturist.

Having sold my big clinic in Cambridgeshire and longed to have less stress and pressure of a busy multidisciplinary clinic. I finally moved back to my home county nearly 2 years ago. 🙌

I have a teaching qualification and many years ago did several years of teaching at the college of Osteopaths Educational Trust. 👍

As some of you will know I am that mad cat lady with 4 very opinionated Tonkinese cats who rule the roost!🐈

Having settled the hubby and feline family in Bucknell and definitely NOT ready to retire, I set up Hazel Grove Health where I could just focus on my patients, helping them to be in less pain, gain better mobility, helping them to improve their quality of life and gain confidence.🩵

🤩One of my favourite things is trying out new things whether that’s for myself, such as having a go at aerial yoga, or whether that’s learning some new skills / techniques that can benefit my patients.

🍁I’m so lucky to live where I live in the heart of beautiful Shropshire, boots on and I can be in the hills, the woods or along relatively unused tracks in the heart of nature and the outdoors.

🏃‍♀️Until recently I loved to run, but as I’ve lost strength in my legs and gained some wear in my knees I’m currently rehabbing myself with a view to taking on new sports in the future. Still need to find my new niche there!

🪴🪏👩‍🌾I also love my garden, which is just as well as we have a large garden which has been neglected for many years, so lots of work needed there.

✨So that’s me in a nutshell……✨
