We have planned an incredible beach installation this Sunday and invite you to play your part.

THE FALLEN – Summerleaze Beach, Bude

Sunday, 14th September, 7-10am.

To coincide with ‘Budehaven Remembers’ and to celebrate the centenary of The Royal British Legion, Bude wants to create a commemorative beach art installation; sketching fallen soldiers into the sand on Summerleaze beach.

At 7am it is low tide, allowing maximum time to sketch fallen soldiers into the sand. At 11am, the time of Remembrance on Shalder Hill, the sketching will be beginning to be washed away by the sea.

It is vitally important that the next generation understand the importance of Remembrance…. 3 million young British men lost in the fields of France, and this project in particular to D-Day. Bude was used as a training ground for D-Day as troops practised on our beaches and cliffs. D-Day saw a fallen soldier every 6 feet.

It is simply drawing around a human body and scratching the sand to create a shadow of a fallen body in the sand. Less difficult than building a sand castle. Less people than will be on the beach during peak summer. The images will be washed away as the tide comes in. It will be done early in the morning before people are up and before the 11 o’clock ceremony.

If you are a young person and willing and keen to be involved in this project please can you let your tutor know so we have an idea of numbers prepared to be involved below.

All you would need to do is be on Summerleaze at 7am, wearing waterproof clothing or ideally a wetsuit. Please bring a kitchen fork to scratch away the sand inside the imprint of your body in The sand.

It would be fantastic if you could be involved, ensuring `Budehaven Remembers`

Many thanks.

Mr H Pearce
This project is supported and encouraged by Mr Wilkes.
