Know the Signs of Lung Cancer 🤍

You know your body best. If something doesn’t feel right, it’s okay to ask for help.

Look out for:

• A cough that lasts 3 weeks or more
• Feeling short of breath more often
• Chest pain when breathing or coughing
• Coughing up blood (even a small amount)
• Repeated chest infections
• A hoarse voice that does not improve

Most changes are not cancer, but getting checked early can make a real difference.
If you’re worried, speak to your GP or healthcare professional - support is available.

Going for bowel cancer screening? You can ask for support. 💙

The main test for bowel cancer is a colonoscopy. This is where a thin, flexible, tube with a camera is used to look inside your bowel.

If you have a disability, long-term condition, or need extra support, you have the right to ask for reasonable adjustments.

This can include:
• Longer appointment times
• A quiet waiting space
• Information in Easy Read or other formats
• Bringing a carer, advocate, or trusted person
• Requesting sedation or gas and air

You can contact the surgery or clinic before your appointment to explain what you need.

Healthcare services must make reasonable adjustments under the Equality Act.

Screening is your choice.
But if you are invited, don’t let access barriers stop you from attending. Support is available - and it’s okay to ask. 🫂

The theme for this years World Down Syndrome Day is 'Together Against Loneliness'
Why? - Everyone feels lonely sometimes. But for many people with Down syndrome and other intellectual disabilities, loneliness is a more common and painful experience.

Their families can feel lonely too, and feel cut off from support.

Loneliness can feel like different things:
– Not having a group of friends or a community to belong to.
– Not having a close, special person to share your feelings with.

Loneliness is a serious problem.

Loneliness is not just a sad feeling. It is bad for our health and happiness. It can make people feel anxious or depressed. It can also harm physical health.

Loneliness happens when people are not supported to build and maintain connections with other people.
Sometimes, people with Down syndrome can be in the same room as others but still feel lonely.

Loneliness is also caused by stigma and discrimination.

Loneliness happens when people are left out of schools, workplaces, and community life. - https://www.worlddownsyndromeday.org/
