It has been a week to the day since we celebrated global running day.

Since then, I’ve come across a paragraph within a book that I’m reading, which has a big resemblance to myself and (no doubt) has applied also to others since they’ve started their journey to being active.

Here it is…

“It's funny how our goals are only as elastic as our sense of self, of who we are and what we think we can accomplish. If all you've ever done is run three miles (5K) at a clip, then a ten-mile run can feel as far as the moon.
Your mind will compile reasons why that distance is beyond you, and you may believe them. If ten becomes the new normal, then a half or full marathon may be the next step.
After a marathon comes ultra. Each time you level up, your mind will step in like an overbearing chaperone and try to shut down the party.”

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I started exercising by doing the NHS Couch To 5K app on my own in 2017.
Last Saturday (after setting up the parkrun course and doing the speeches), I drove off to Llanwrtyd Wells to do the Man versus Horse event (22 miles up and down hills on a hot day).
I always admired people who ran a leg of the Man v Horse, let alone the whole distance. To enter and run the event myself, was never possible (or so I thought)!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I have seen so many people progress through parkrun and running clubs 😊

Long May it continue 🫶🤝👍

< Age Grade % >

The highest grade Male and Female at this event were Paul Millsom (81.54%) and Stephanie Warrick (79.51%).

All parkrun events use Age Grading to help parkrunners compare results.
Age Grading takes your time and uses the world record time for your s*x and age group to produce a score (a percentage). This score allows you to compare your personal performance against other people's performances even though they might be a different age and a different s*x to you - the higher the score the better the performance. The scores can also be compared across different race distances - to allow you to, for example, compare a 5km time against a marathon.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
< First Finishers >
First Female finisher was Kate Morris crossing the line in 22:31 (and bagging a new PB in the process).
First Male finisher was Phil Morris, crossing the finish line in 17:42.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

< Course Records >

The male record is held by David WILSON who recorded a time of 15:51 on 1st June 2019 (event number 12).

The female record is held by Donna MORRIS who recorded a time of 17:36 on 16th July 2022 (event number 93).

The Age Grade course record is held by Sandy ANNING who recorded 91.12% (24:02) on 7th September 2019 (event number 25).

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
< Groe parkrun (since we began) >
Groe parkrun started on 2nd March 2019. Since then 3,371 participants have completed 14,290 parkruns covering a total distance of 71,450 km, including 2,636 new Personal Bests. A total of 267 individuals have volunteered 2,357 times.
