The Plank (High plank).

Of course it has a sanskrit name too. As part of the sun salutations it is known as Phalakasana or Kumbhakasana referring to breath retention.

Want to increase the challenge?
Squeeze those palms together and activate the pectoral muscles
Protract the shoulder blades and push away from the ground.
Pull a long straight line of stability, head forwards heels back.
Now without articulating the hips, glide forward coming onto the toes and pushing wrists into extension. Focus your weight move away from the wrists and over the knuckles.

Still not feeling it?
Squeeze palms towards toes, toes towards palms. Don't bend at the waist! Imagine trying to create a ripple in the middle of your mat so that it starts to fold. That should feel strong AF!

The Yogi Squat
Malasana or Garland pose

Comes very natural for some, incredibly difficult for others.

This deep squat is now often absent from our modern ways of life and can feel pretty weird or wobbly at first.

If your heels lift, no problem! Just place something under them to allow you to put some weight back into the heels.

Try avoid rounding the back. Draw the spine tall and long.

Stretches ankles knees and hips.

Optional prayer hands and adductor squeeze by pushing knees in and elbows out. Enjoy!

Prasarita Padottanasana,
A wide legged forward fold or fan pose

This is sort of variation D, if a little too wide just for fun effect.

This isn't the splits.

I often get. "Oh you must be so flexible to teacher"

Flexibility isn't something that has come naturally for me. In fact, its always been a struggle and now in my 4th decade of life I'm not expecting huge progressions. I'd much rather stay fit, healthy and mobile and help others do the same.

I came to yoga quite late in life from a place of injury and a body that was stiff and immobile. Then a few years later, deepened my knowledge to be able to share that in teaching.

I felt I must be flexible to be able to teach. This was an unrealistic goal that brought with it injury, and a realisation that yoga is truly for everybody. Flexibility wasn't a necessity.

That wasn't a reason not to try. If we don't try work on something, how are we ever going to improve upon it? We may never compete with the contorsionist gymnasts of Instagram, but that doesn't mean give up. You can only compete with yourself. Yoga is a personal non-competitive journey.

YOU ARE NEVER NOT FLEXIBLE ENOUGH FOR YOGA

"Saying you are not flexible enough for yoga is like saying you're too dirty to take a bath"

But if you do try, you might just improve!

Ps. No, I can't do the splits. This me cheating But my body moves a million times better than it did last decade

This Wednesday evening I am offering a
