UPDATE:
- An old map dated between 1830-1880 suggests it was known as Westend House. It also suggests that the house and coal shed to the rear of the property were already built.
- Deeds of the land from 1871 suggest the Auger family had ties with the land. A Benjamin Burnes and Henrietta Victoria Auger are listed.
- Research into Henrietta Auger suggests she was the wife of Alfred Crush Auger. Alfreds father was John Gilson Auger who was an oyster merchant and owned and lived at Warners Hall. Its unclear as to what Benjamin Burnes involvement was and how the Augers aquired the land in the first place. Any other information would be greatly appreciated, a bonus if any photos are available also.

Next year will be 60 years of David Wood Opticians!

We are looking for anyone who can provide any information or photos of our beautiful building known as West House.

We are aware it was built around 1800.
We believe it was once a house/flats, then a bank, doctors surgery, wool shop and opticians. It would be great to find out more about the history of such a grand structure.

A little patient was found near the practice, he had lost his owner! 😔 whilst Winnie the Pooh was here he thought it was a good idea to get his eyes tested so he doesn’t get lost again😳 after choosing his glasses he was very helpful around the practice, repairing glasses, filing, answering the phone & booking patients in👓
Thankfully, Winnie the Pooh was reunited with his owner a bit later on☺️
