Details of Presenting Condition
Osteoarthritis is a degenerative joint disease, in which the tissues in the joint break down over time, it happens when the protective cartilage that cushions the ends of the bones wears down. It is the most common type of arthritis, people with osteoarthritis usually have joint pain and, after rest or inactivity, stiffness for a short period of time. Although osteoarthritis can damage any joint, the condition most commonly affects joints in the hands, knees, hips and spine.
Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a common long-term disorder of the digestive system that causes symptoms like stomach cramps, bloating, diarrhoea and constipation. It is considered a gut-brain interaction disorder, where the communication between the gut and the brain is disrupted, leading to abdominal pain associated with a change in bowl habits.
Client presents with IBS and osteoarthritis in hands triggered by working life as an auto electrician. He experiences pain, stiffness and inflammation in his joints.
Case Study write up
I completed 3 RLD treatments, one treatment every three weeks over 9 weeks.
Treatment started by opening up the lymph, mainly focused on the upper lymph during treatments, spending extra time on the hand reflex.
Measurement
Does the client feel any reduction in pain, discomfort, stiffness in hands.
How many IBS flare ups over the 9 weeks of treatment.
Assessment & Evaluation of aims and outcomes
Client had no expectations of the treatment, they have not had Reflexology Lymph Drainage before, they were willing to give RLD a go with an open mind to see if it would give any relief to the symptoms that they experienced.
Client reported a reduction in pain, discomfort and stiffness to joints over the period of treatment. They were very happy with how RLD seemed to be managing symptoms.
Client reported no IBS flare ups in the 9 weeks of treatments.
Client has decided to book in for regular 6 weekly RLD to continue to manage the condition, we will look into increasing treatment to 3 weekly, if needed.
Positive results over a period of 9 weeks.
Client Feedback and Comments
Neither a sceptic or an advocate of this kind of treatment was willing to give a try. Whilst my symptoms haven’t changed I also haven’t had any episodes of my IBS or worsening of my joints so believe that prevention is better than cure, I will continue treatments going forward rather than wait for my conditions to become worse and then try to fix them.
