Why does early detection of breast cancer screening matter? Five year survival rates are 99% when breast cancer is found early.

The NHS Breast Cancer Screening Programme aims to detect cancer before any changes to the breast are seen or felt. If you are eligible for breast cancer screening, please attend your appointment when invited. Early detection can help save lives.

ELHT Mammographer Nicola Bradley shows us around the equipment on board the mobile breast screening unit that’s currently outside Royal Blackburn Hospital.

In just two minutes, Nicola’s video will answer questions like:

❓ How long will my appointment be?

❓ What x-rays are taken?

❓ How does the equipment work?

❓ Will it hurt?

Breast screening is the best way to detect breast changes early – before any lumps can be felt.

And finding breast cancer early means that treatment may be simpler - and is more likely to be effective.
