Pendleside Hospice

Pendleside Hospice Our first service, a telephone helpline, was provided from a small office in the old Marsden Hospital.
(213)

Pendleside Hospice exists to promote and enhance the quality of life for people with advancing long term and life limiting illnesses, as well as provide support for their families and carers 💛 Local people commenced fundraising in October 1988 to provide hospice care for Burnley and Pendle people diagnosed with cancer and other life limiting-illnesses. A day care service soon followed and we were allocated space at Pendle Community Hospital, whilst fundraising continued to build the Hospice, which opened in 1997. Since then, many thousands of local people have benefitted from our specialist palliative and end-of-life services. We now offer day therapy, specialist physiotherapy, complementary therapies, inpatient care, 24/7 hospice at home, counselling, bereavement support and spiritual care. Pendleside was built “by the people and for the people of Burnley and Pendle”; a statement that remains true today. Our vital services are only possible because of the outstanding charitable support of local people, who have given generously to Pendleside over many years. Without that support, the Hospice wouldn't be able to provide care that is relied upon by so many local families at very difficult times in their lives.

This week we’re starting something special – Feedback Fridays 💛

We’re so grateful to receive such kind thank you cards each week. Every single one is shared with our team, because they deserve to see just how much their care and kindness means to others.

These messages come from patients and their loved ones, and they really do make our day.

Here’s one we wanted to share with you this week…

Thankful Thursday 🫶

A huge thank you once again to the Pendle Powerfest team for their incredible support of Pendleside Hospice throughout 2025, raising an amazing £1,326 at their Cars and Coffee events. 🚗☕

Since 2022, the team have raised a fantastic £14,796 in aid of Pendleside by hosting collections at their events and inviting us along with our raffle car to sell tickets.

We’re very much looking forward to attending more of their upcoming events in 2026! Be sure to check out the Pendle Powerfest page to see what they have planned in the coming months.

Our Head of Events, Sammi Graham, attended their first event of 2026 on Sunday at Daisy to receive the generous cheque and catch up with the team, including their littlest members, twins Daisy and Delilah 💛

Meet the Team Tuesday 💛

Jim Moodie – Maintenance

Jim is a valued member of our Maintenance team, who helps keep the hospice running smoothly. His role is incredibly varied and hands-on, from decorating and general repairs to fixing patients’ beds and supporting with any maintenance needs across the hospice. Whatever needs doing, Jim is always ready to help. 🔨

He’s also a great support to our fundraising team, helping to set up and pack down events.

You’ll often spot Jim walking around the hospice with a big smile from ear to ear. 😁

Around Christmas time, Jim can sometimes also be known as Father Christmas in disguise! If you joined us at last year’s Santa Dash, you may have spotted him in his suit. Cheering everyone on, spreading festive joy and handing out selection boxes. 🎅

Outside of work, Jim enjoys spending as much time as possible with his family and friends.

Thanks for all of your hard work, we are lucky to have you!

She’s off! 🥾

Today, Vanessa Woodall begins an incredible 96-mile journey along the West Highland Way, all in support of Pendleside Hospice.

Over the next six days, she’ll push herself across some of Scotland’s most challenging and beautiful landscapes.🌄

Pendleside Hospice means so much to so many local families, and we are beyond grateful that Vanessa has chosen to take on this huge challenge to support the care we provide every single day.

Even more amazing, this is a completely self-funded challenge, so every penny raised goes directly to supporting our patients and their loved ones.

If you’d like to be part of Vanessa’s journey, she’s inviting anyone who can spare £1 or £2 to donate, and she will carry the name of your loved one with her along the route as a tribute.

To support Vanessa along the way, you can do so here 👉 https://bit.ly/4dzhCiE

Good luck, we are all cheering you on every mile! 👏
