Pendleside Hospice

Pendleside Hospice Our first service, a telephone helpline, was provided from a small office in the old Marsden Hospital.

Pendleside Hospice exists to promote and enhance the quality of life for people with advancing long term and life limiting illnesses, as well as provide support for their families and carers 💛 Local people commenced fundraising in October 1988 to provide hospice care for Burnley and Pendle people diagnosed with cancer and other life limiting-illnesses. A day care service soon followed and we were allocated space at Pendle Community Hospital, whilst fundraising continued to build the Hospice, which opened in 1997. Since then, many thousands of local people have benefitted from our specialist palliative and end-of-life services. We now offer day therapy, specialist physiotherapy, complementary therapies, inpatient care, 24/7 hospice at home, counselling, bereavement support and spiritual care. Pendleside was built “by the people and for the people of Burnley and Pendle”; a statement that remains true today. Our vital services are only possible because of the outstanding charitable support of local people, who have given generously to Pendleside over many years. Without that support, the Hospice wouldn't be able to provide care that is relied upon by so many local families at very difficult times in their lives.

Thank you to every single wonderful talented knitters and crocheters who supported our Knitted Hearts Appeal. The kindness shown has been truly overwhelming. 💛

We now have a large number of knitted hearts and due to limited storage space, we are no longer able to accept any more at this time.

If you are still creating knitted hearts, we kindly encourage you to consider donating them to other hospices or your local hospital, where they will continue to bring comfort to families when it matters most. ✨

Each heart is a small but meaningful keepsake and every one has been made with care and compassion. .

Introducing our Pendleside’s Got Talent Semi-Finalists...

Layla Robertson, 9, Dancer 🕺

My name is Layla and I'm taking part in Pendleside's Got Talent in aid of Pendleside Hospice. I love to dance and sing and I am always boogie-ing around the house and belting out my favorite songs in my free time. I am also in a cheerleading team and musical theatre group to get me out of the house sometimes too lol.

"I am so excited to have a part in this amazing experience of being in the LIVE SEMI-FINALS!! and getting the chance to help raise money for such a fantastic cause. Pendleside hospice does so many wonderful things but I am especially thankful for them looking after my Auntie Denise during her last days. Unfortunately, we couldn't be there for her as it was during COVID restrictions but we are so glad Pendleside Hospice was there for her and we know that she was well cared for and in good hands.

"Thank you so much for all you do. I will be dedicating my dance to my Auntie Denise and I hope it can also help Pendleside Hospice reach their target.”

Over the past three weeks, the ladies in our Art Group have been busy creating their Christmas wreaths. 🌿

Each participant made their own unique wreath to take home.

As a group, they also collaborated on one large project, which was proudly displayed at the front of the stage during this year’s Light Up a Life service. It is now on display in the Health, Wellbeing and Rehabilitation Department for everyone to enjoy. 💛

Fundraiser Round-Up – Thank You! 💛

We’d like to say a huge thank you to some incredible supporters who have gone above and beyond to raise vital funds for Pendleside Hospice. Your generosity and dedication mean so much to us.

🛵 Burnley & Pendle Scooter Club

Back in August, the club hosted an amazing Scooter Rally weekend, packed with camping, live bands, DJs, and scenic ride-outs. Thanks to everyone involved, they raised an incredible £3,353.04 for the hospice!

⚽ Pendle Charity Sunday League

We were delighted to receive a cheque for £1,000 from the league as part of their Charity Sunday fundraising, which raised £7,000 in total to be shared between several charities.

🏃‍♀️ Jodie Bastable

A huge well done to Jodie, who ran the Manchester Half Marathon in October and raised a fantastic amount for Pendleside Hospice. Jodie is part of the wonderful Walne Family, who have raised an incredible amount over the years through their annual walks.

🏞️ Anne Huntley & friends

Anne and her friends took on the challenge of Endure 24, pushing themselves for a full 24 hours to complete as many laps as possible of the 8km trail course. What an amazing effort!

To every single person who donated, took part, organised events, or cheered from the sidelines, thank you! Your support helps us continue to provide care to people in our community when they need it most. 💛

Pendleside Stories | Meet Sheila 💛

The next film in our Pendleside Stories series introduces Sheila Helm, our Supporter Engagement Fundraiser.

Sheila shares her journey with Pendleside and what inspires her to build lasting connections with our community of supporters. Her story highlights the passion that drives our fundraising team.

“Without the incredible hard work of our fundraisers, the hospice simply could not meet its £6.4 million running costs. I am grateful for the strong relationships built over time and want to thank every fundraiser for their dedication and continued support.”– Sheila

🎥 A big thank you to Bethany and Mike at tolife, a local media company who captured these beautiful stories.
