Blue Monday β Letβs Talk About It π
Firstly, 'Blue Monday' is not real.
It was a marketing invention - literally created by a travel company to sell holidays.
Thereβs no scientific evidence that the third Monday in January is the "most depressing day of the year.β
But that doesnβt mean people arenβt struggling.
January can feel heavy.
Post-holiday comedown, short days, cold weather, financial pressure, and high expectations for βnew year, new meβ energy.
So instead of feeding the myth, letβs talk about real ways to look after your mental health this winter:
If youβre feeling the January blues:
π
Structure your week: Having small things to look forward to (like a walk, call with a friend, or planning your favourite meal) can lift your mood.
π€ Get outside: Even 10-15 minutes of natural light can boost energy and regulate sleep.
π± Watch your scroll time: Try swapping 5 mins of screen time for 5 mins of movement or music.
π¨ Create something: Painting, cooking, writing, even reorganising a drawer! Feeling productive, even on a small task, can boost our mood.
π₯ Talk it out: You donβt need to be in crisis to talk to someone. Checking in with friends and family, too. They may be feeling the same.
We hope you have a great week, and let's shake off this idea of 'blue' Monday π
