BAC O'Connor Centres

BAC O'Connor Centres This page is set up to share information about the BAC O'Connor Centres, our services, our projects, successes and also staff recruitment.

BAC O’Connor Centres provide abstinence based rehabilitation and support to people with drug &/or alcohol misuse problems across Staffordshire and the rest of the UK The BAC O’Connor Centres specialise in the rehabilitation of individuals experiencing dependency. Based on more than 23 years' experience, we have developed an evidence-based programme which delivers an end to end service “Rehabilitation in the Real World” addressing issues of the 21st century, with a holistic programme which aims to meet the varying needs of individuals and prepare them for the future. We believe rehabilitation should not end or claim to be successful until such time an individual has a future purpose and has begun to build a foundation towards an independent lifestyle and the confidence to achieve such. Quote: “You can’t just sit there and wait for people to give you that golden dream. You’ve got to get out there and make it happen for yourself.”

Earlier this week the BAC team attended an interfaith coffee morning hosted by UKIM, a Muslim organisation doing brilliant work within the community. It was a warm, open space where we took part in mature and thought provoking conversations about support, stigma and recovery.

We were joined by Councillor Mariam Khan, Cabinet Member for Health and Social Care, who shared powerful insight into the work being done to improve access to help across the area. Local school kids also attended, asking thoughtful questions and engaging with the topic in a really positive way.

These conversations matter, especially in underrepresented communities. Addiction does not have a race, religion or colour. Everyone deserves understanding, support and a fair chance at recovery.

Thank you to UKIM for hosting and bringing everyone together.

🕯 International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and Girls

Today marks the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and Girls, an issue that affects every community and reaches far beyond what we see.

This matters to us because many women who come into recovery carry the weight of past violence, trauma and fear. These experiences often shape their relationship with substances and their journey into addiction.

In our services, we see women rebuild their lives with strength. They learn to feel safe again. They learn to trust again. They learn to live without fear. Recovery gives women space to heal the trauma behind the addiction, not just the addiction itself.

Violence steals confidence and stability. Recovery helps women take both back. Support, safety and understanding play a key role. When women are heard and believed, they start to move forward with purpose.

Today is a reminder to stand with every woman who has faced violence. It is a reminder to challenge the attitudes that silence survivors. It is a reminder that healing is possible with the right support.

We remain committed to creating safe environments where women can recover, rebuild and reconnect with their lives.

Candlelit Vigil for International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and Girls

We’re standing together with Staffordshire Women’s Aid this Tuesday 25th November for a candlelit vigil in Market Square, Stafford at 4.30pm.

This gathering is a moment to remember the women whose lives have been taken by male violence, to honour their names, and to stand united against all forms of violence towards women and girls.

A minute’s silence will be held in remembrance.
Everyone is welcome to join us in reflection, solidarity and support.

Please note: this is a public event and photos/videos may be taken.

Today is International Men's Day and we’re shining a light on something that matters deeply — men’s mental health.
Too many men still feel they have to stay silent, stay strong, or “just get on with it.” But real strength is found in speaking up, reaching out, and supporting one another.

For men in recovery, mental health plays a huge part in the journey. Many face years of holding things in, masking emotions, or feeling like they have to cope alone — and that pressure can lead to addiction as a way of coping.
But when men feel safe to talk, share, and connect, something changes. Recovery becomes lighter. Hope becomes clearer. And isolation begins to fade.

At BAC, we see every day how powerful it is when men support each other — whether that’s in group sessions, out in the community, or simply checking in with a mate.
Mental health and recovery go hand in hand. Healing one helps heal the other.

If today feels heavy, reach out. To us. To a mate. To someone you trust.
Talking can be the first step toward both better mental health and long-term recovery.

💬 You matter. Your mental health matters. Your recovery matters.

Transgender Awareness Week🏳️‍⚧️
13–19 November
This week, we honour and uplift our transgender and non-binary community. We celebrate your strength, your courage, and your authenticity. 💛

Transgender Awareness Week is a time to reflect on how we all have a role to play in supporting our transgender and non-binary colleagues, clients, and wider communities by:
✨ Listening to trans voices
✨ Challenging stigma and misinformation
✨ Advocating for safety, dignity, and equality
✨Celebrating the beauty of living as your true self
✨Using a person’s preferred pronouns

To all trans and non-binary people: you deserve to be seen, heard, and supported—not just this week, but every day. 💙💗🤍

Let’s stand together, show kindness, and create a world where everyone can thrive as who they are. 🏳️‍⚧️

John’s Next Big Challenge – Trekking the Sahara Desert for Recovery! 🏜️

We’re so proud to share that John, a BAC graduate, is taking on an incredible adventure, a 100km trek across the Sahara Desert in Morocco this November to raise money for The O’Connor Gateway Trust.

No stranger to adventure, John has completed treks all over the world, including Mount Toubkal, but this will be his toughest and most inspiring challenge yet. Over eight days, he’ll face scorching days, freezing nights, and rugged terrain. All in the name of supporting people rebuilding their lives in recovery.

💬 John said this challenge is about “pushing myself beyond my limits while giving back to the place that helped me rebuild mine.”

Let’s show John our full support as he represents our recovery community in the desert! Every donation, no matter how small, helps change lives.

Let’s cheer him on every step of the way, from Burton to the sands of the Sahara! 💪🔥
