Serenity Counselling

Serenity Counselling Jackie Rogers MBACP Accredited Counsellor / Psychotherapist. Accredited IPT Practioner. My name is Jackie Rogers and I set up Serenity Counselling in 2011.

Although Serenity Counselling was a new venture for me, I have a vast amount of experience in counselling and supporting clients. For fifteen years I worked in the voluntary sector supporting clients who had been r***d, sexually abused (as an adult or child), in abusive relationships or bereaved through murder and manslaughter. I am a fully qualified therapist and am an Accredited Member of the BACP (British Association of Counsellors & Psychotherapists). Many people ask me how do you know if you need counselling? Well, there is no specific criteria for having counselling. If you are considering it, then maybe you have answered that question yourself already. Many people have counselling whether it is short term, long term or just having a safe space to share something and be heard. If there are times when you feel lost, unsatisfied or stressed in your life, counselling can bring clarity in a time of confusion and help you cope with anxiety or depression. You may be having difficulty dealing with recent circumstances, e.g. bereavement, redundancy, relationship breakdown or other changes in your life. or you may feel ready to talk about difficult past experiences or trauma. Counselling can help you identify where you want to be, what needs to change and how best to get there. I can provide you with a supportive, non judgmental and confidential environment in which together we can explore any emotional psychological or behavioural difficulties you maybe encountering. And this will help you to explore your own personal strengths and capabilities that are sometimes lost in times of confusion or anxiety. Today is ***dePreventionDay2025.
Let’s mark it by being mindful in how we talk about su***de. There is so much shame around su***de. Saying someone ‘committed’ su***de is adding to that shame. Su***de is NOT a crime and as tragic it is to lose someone this way, we need to not use the word ‘commit’.

Please remember always be kind. You do not know what people are going through…. 💜💚

If you are struggling you are not alone. Please talk to someone or call the Samaritans 116 123

Words shape lives. It’s time to stop saying “committed su***de” 🚫

Today is ***dePreventionDay2025, and this year’s theme is changing the narrative around su***de.

For those living with the impact of su***de loss, language matters. The words we use can either open up space for support or create barriers to talking about our grief.

Phrases like “committed su***de” come from a time when su***de was a crime, and decades later, still linger in dictionaries, classrooms and everyday conversation. But su***de hasn’t been a crime since 1961 - and it’s time our language reflected that.

That’s why we’re calling on Oxford University Press and Cambridge University Press to remove “committed su***de” from their print dictionaries and replace it with compassionate alternatives such as “died by su***de” or “took their own life.”

My Story

My name is Jackie Rogers and I started my own private practice, Serenity Counselling, in 2011. Although private practice was a new venture for me, I had a vast amount of previous experience in counselling and supporting clients. For fifteen years I worked in the voluntary sector supporting clients who had been r***d, sexually abused (as an adult or child), in abusive relationships or bereaved through murder and manslaughter. I also volunteered for Place2Be, counselling children from the age of 5 upwards through creative and play therapy.

I am a fully qualified counsellor and am an Accredited Member of the BACP (British Association of Counsellors & Psychotherapists). In addition to my private practice work I also see patients referred by their GPs through the NHS IAPT (Improved Access to Psychological Therapies) service. Not only do I support adults I also see children and young people. I have an enhanced DBS certificate (which is updated annually)and am registered with the ICO (Data Protection).

Many people ask me how do you know if you need counselling? Well, there is no specific criteria for having counselling.
