A closer look at Poplars

Our services include a dedicated and safe environment for people with dementia. Our knowledge and skills in this area is developing rapidly as more and more research is coming forward with ways to stimulate peoples’ strengths and abilities and slow the progression of the disease.

Dementia can be a very lonely illness, resulting in people withdrawing into themselves. We continually strive to engage residents in a programme of purposeful and therapeutic activity, aimed at maintaining an active brain and minimising times of anxiety and fear.

Living at Poplars offers reassurance and companionship at a time when some people may find themselves alone and struggling to cope. We aim to take the worry out of growing older and help you enjoy life to the full.

Working in close liaison with key health professionals we aim to obtain the best services and support available. We fight for peoples’ rights to choice and decision making and ensure they receive all the specialist support they require, in a dignified and respectful manner.

All our residents are encouraged to join in a varied and fun activities programme that includes events to create reminiscence and remind people of happy times, such as days at the seaside, picnics and parties. We use arts and crafts as well as quizzes and other puzzles to keep peoples’ minds active; also exercise classes to keep the body fit as well.

Entertainers visit regularly and we encourage local schools and church groups to be involved with the home. When people are unable to go out it is vital we provide opportunities for the local community to come into the home, even if it is just for a chat and a cup of tea.

Meal times are an important part of our residents’ day and we work hard to produce a varied menu that residents can select from. Our dining room is pleasantly decorated and we encourage people to sit together to foster new friendships and make mealtimes sociable.
