A Gentle Warmth for Aching joints
Joint pain has a way of creeping into everyday life — making walking, sleeping, carrying or even getting comfortable difficult. It can feel worse in cold or damp weather, after long periods on your feet, or simply as the body gets tired from carrying us through the years.
One treatment I often use in clinic is moxibustion, a traditional heat therapy used in Traditional Chinese Medicine for thousands of years.
Moxa uses the herb mugwort to gently warm specific acupuncture points. The warmth penetrates deeply into the tissues, helping to improve circulation, relax tight muscles, and encourage the smooth flow of Qi and Blood through the channels that pass through the joints.
In Chinese medicine, pain often arises when this flow becomes blocked — particularly by Cold or Damp — which is why warmth can be so powerful.
Many people describe moxa as one of the most relaxing treatments they experience. The heat is gentle, comforting, and deeply soothing, often leaving the whole body feeling calmer and looser afterwards.
If joint pain has been limiting your movement, moxibustion may be a natural way to support your body back towards ease and mobility.
