What is a Postnatal Doula?

A Postnatal Doula is someone who helps to hold the space for you during those precious first few months of adapting to parenthood. They help with household chores, emotional regulation, breastfeeding+ newborn support etc.

What do I offer?

Hi I'm Sophie a fully qualified hypnobirthing instructor, EYFS educator, mother to three children + peer support in breastfeeding. I offer packages for families in their Postnatal period + beyond.

Hey!! I'm a devoted mother to three beautiful souls, a certified Hypnobirthing Instructor, BA (Hons) in Early Years, Peer Supporter in Breastfeeding, and Postnatal/ Family Doula.

My journey into birthwork began after the challenging birth of my second child. Which like many births, it left me feeling lost and unheard. But that experience became my awakening, I devoted myself to learning everything I could about physiological birth. The mind, body + baby connection.

When I birthed my third child at home, surrounded by calm, love, and my family’s presence, I reclaimed my birth as a rite of passage whole, spiritual, and deeply embodied.

Now, my mission is to help women awaken their inner jaguar . To find the roar that lives within every birthing woman, to hold the line for their voice, and to birth from a place of instinct, trust, and power.

Artificial Rupture of Membranes (AROM) — What Is It?

Have you ever heard of artificial rupture of membranes, or AROM? It’s when a care provider artificially breaks the amniotic sac (your “waters”) during labour. They usually use a small, sterile tool that looks a bit like a crochet hook to gently make a tiny tear in the membranes surrounding your baby.

The idea is that this can help speed up labour or allow the provider to check the colour of the amniotic fluid, but it’s not always medically necessary, and like any intervention, it has pros and cons.

💭 Question for you:

Did you have your waters artificially broken during birth?
How did you feel about it?

🤔 Fun fact:
Did you know that artificially breaking waters is actually a relatively new practice in birth history? For most of human history, waters were left to break naturally, this intervention only became common in the 20th century as modern obstetric practices evolved.
