Supporting Medical Research: How You Can Get Involved
Our GP Practice is proud to contribute to the Optimum Patient Care Research Database (OPCRD). This initiative uses patient health records to help researchers better understand diseases and develop more effective treatments, ultimately improving public health and science.
How Your Data Contributes
By being a patient at this practice, your anonymised health records automatically help support vital medical research. This data is used to:
Improve patient care and clinical outcomes.
Advance scientific understanding of chronic diseases.
Help public health officials make informed decisions.
Data from OPCRD is linked with hospital and other health data to provide a fuller picture for researchers. To facilitate this linkage, your NHS number, gender, and date of birth are sent to NHS England. The use of these identifiers without explicit consent has been approved by the Confidentiality Advisory Group. However, you cannot be identified from the anonymised data used in the actual research.
Participation is an important way to help future patients, but it is entirely voluntary. If you do not want your data to be used for OPCRD research, you can opt out at any time by contacting the Practice directly.
If you would like more information on the database or how your data is used, please visit the official website or contact the OPCRD team:
