Today our Home Services Advisor, Sarah Pratt went out into the Bushey Community to deliver invites for our Dementia Friends session next Thursday 20th November at 3:00 pm as well as our Parkinson's Pals Café leaflet. She was overwhelmed by the community spirit in Bushey and how everyone was happy to promote and pass on our free events. Becca Fatherly, Communications Manager at Mencap Watford was lovely to talk to and there will definitely be some collaborations we can work with.

WAR MEMORIAL VISIT

Residents commemorated Armistice day this week with a visit to our local war memorial . Residents at Bushey House had made their own wreath with handmade poppies and one of our residents,Sheila, who was in the RAF, had the special job of laying the wreath . When we returned to Bushey House we held a reminiscence afternoon with all our residents ,where they all shared their stories and memories of the 2nd world war.

NEIGHBOURHOOD POLICE VISIT.

Residents were very pleased to welcome PCOS Steven Querns to Bushey House last week ,along with his colleague Rosie .

Steve visits us regularly at Bushey House and was kind enough to take time out of his busy schedule to talk to our residents about scams , what to look for and how to avoid them ,on phones and via email and letters.
Steve and Rosie also took time to talk to all of our residents about any other concerns they may have or questions they wanted answered .

Our residents found the talk really interesting and were very grateful for the visit to our home . Steve will visit us again in December to answer any worries or questions our residents may have as part of a regular programme of visits to Bushey House.

BUSHEY IN PHOTOS .

Last week residents enjoyed an afternoon looking at the history of Bushey through photos . Presented by photographer and local Bushey resident , Jeff Owen .

We were treated to a tour of Bushey looking at areas on photographs from the eighteen hundreds up until present day and comparing what was still left of the original buildings . Jeff using his photographic skills had also added subtle colours to some of the old black and white images really bringing the photographs to life , he also brought some huge boards of photos with him for our residents to look at after his presentation . Our residents really enjoyed learning more about Bushey and seeing how nice it was that lots of the history is still here today .

Pet therapy visits bring joy and comfort to our residents. Residents have expressed how much they enjoy holding the animals and how the visits brighten their day. Some visits evoke fond memories of past experiences with animals. Staff note that these sessions can reduce stress and provide therapeutic benefits through physical contact with the animals. 🐶🐶🐶

Next Thursday at 14:30 is our Parkinson's Pals Bushey at Bushey House Beaumont Care Home.

Bushey House is a wonderful Grade 2 listed home and a beautiful venue to be able to hold such an important Parkinson's Support Group. If you or someone you care for is living with Parkinson's, come and make friends and support each other.

Today at Cheverton Lodge Care Home, we had the pleasure of meeting Alya, a dietician from Whittington Health NHS Trust. She had come to visit several of our residents and our nurses and it was her first time here. Alya was a breath of fresh air and she is a wonderful asset to her team. At Cheverton Lodge Care Home, providing exemplary care and support to our residents is at the heart of what we do.

🎃 Halloween Celebrations 🎃

Residents, patients and colleagues got into the Halloween spirit of things by creating beautiful autumnal displays with painted and carved pumpkins, flowers and wreaths.

Many of our care homes and hospitals hosted fun-filled Halloween events with delicious treats, mocktails, live music entertainment, costume competitions and community celebrations.

It's safe to say that everyone had a spooktacular time. 👻

A snapshot of happiness, frozen in time. Reminiscing our good weekend sing-a-long with one of our residents, Sheila! 👩‍🎤🎤🎙🎵🎶

Sheila hilariously said, "This was really fun. Whenever I have a problem, I sing. Then I realise that my voice is a lot worse than my problem." 😂 Everyone were in laughter and Sheila filled up the room with her funny jokes. 🤩

Ruth added, "We should be enroling to a voice lesson. We've got a lot of potential. When I was younger, I used to sing a lot and watched opera concerts." 😊

👻🎃 Bewitching Tricks and Spooky Treats 👻🎃

Springvale Court Care Home, in Wrekenton, , was a den of ghoulish activity as the home’s spooky Halloween Adams Family got into full swing.

Colleagues embraced the spirit of Halloween by dressing up as The Addams Family. Morticia, Gomez, Pugsley, Wednesday, Uncle Fester, Cousin Itt and Lurch all visited Trinity Square in Gateshead town centre to hand out goodie bags for children and adults, and everyone had the opportunity to have their photo taken with the Addams Family.

General Manager, Gemma Rooney, shared: “Our staff love any excuse for fancy dress day! – we’ve all had a brilliant time.”

The team at Springvale Court commented: “It has been such a fun day. It was wonderful to see everyone go to so much effort to get into the Halloween spirit. And seeing the smiles on everyone’s faces’’.

GARDEN CENTRE VISIT

On Thursday we took another group of residents to see the Christmas displays at the Garden centre . With our residents keen to do some Christmas shopping and to have a look at the beautiful Christmas displays . We will be having regular trips to the garden centre through November and December to give all our residents who wish a chance to visit .

🔍 Thursday Night Murder Club at Caldy Manor 🕵️‍♀️

It was an evening to remember at Caldy Manor Care Home on the as residents, colleagues and friends from Heswall & District Ladies Circle turned detectives, suspects and stars in the home’s very own Thursday Murder Club-themed evening.

Inspired by Richard Osman’s much-loved mystery novels, there were hilarious plot twists and some truly Oscar-worthy performances, the night was packed with laughs and fantastic acting from everyone involved.

A huge thank you to all, the experience was a roaring success.

Safe to say… no one saw the ending coming! 😉

🏅 Silver Success for Hugh Myddelton at Enfield in Bloom 2025 🌸

We’re happy to share that Hugh Myddelton House Care Home in won Silver in the Best Communal Gardens category at the Enfield in Bloom 2025.

The team proudly received their certificate from the Mayor of Enfield, Margaret Greer, at the Chickenshed Theatre – a joyful moment for everyone involved.

A big thank you to all who helped make the gardens so beautiful this year, especially volunteer Pat and Resident Ambassador Rosa.

Jade Shea, General Manager at the home, said: “Our garden is not just a beautiful space it’s a source of comfort, activity and pride for everyone here. This award belongs to our entire community who have worked so hard to make it flourish.”

The Enfield in Bloom competition, held annually, honours the best in gardening and environmental efforts across the borough.

🎉 Rose Water Place Supports Local Fishing Charity 🎉

Rose Water Place Care Home in recently presented Cast A Thought charity with a cheque for £1,260 in support of their Fish and Chat project, which promotes mental health and wellbeing through the therapeutic benefits of angling.

Cast A Thought CIC empowers children, young people and adults through accessible and inclusive fishing activities that encourage mental wellness and connection with nature.

Colleagues and residents welcomed Dave and Helen from Cast A Thought to a small gathering at the home to celebrate and hand over the cheque, awarded on behalf of Barchester's Charitable Foundation.

Hadrian Rodriguez, General Manager at Rose Water Place, shared: “We are always keen to show as much support as we can to local charities and Cast A Thought ensures that every cast of the line brings hope, healing and togetherness in the community.”
