After 18 years of policing, I’m now in a position to finally begin my training to become a Pilates Instructor, something I’ve wanted to start for several years but *life* always seemed to get in the way.

I feel this resonates with a lot of us who may feel bored or frustrated in our jobs and would love to change career; maybe you loved your work once but it no longer aligns with you…

I’ve done Pilates for over 15 years and I’d be physically broken without it (especially given my previous job), so I’ve always wanted to learn more about the techniques and philosophies so I can share these and help others improve their fitness.

It also provides me the opportunity to take some time out for myself and my emotional health, something we don’t always prioritise in our fast-paced society.

Within a few months (fingers crossed!), I’ll be qualified and looking to take on 1:1 clients from my therapy room in Butleigh as well as running group classes from the local Sports Pavilion here (with a view to expanding further when able); my specialism is supporting women with their physical health which is something I feel very passionate about.

It’s a massive step for me to undertake training in another career and to step out of my comfort zone but I’m a big advocate for following your dreams and making a change no matter your age or where you are in life, so I’m really happy to be beginning this next chapter!

My name is Catherine and I’ve created this page to share my enthusiasm for Pilates; I’ve been practising for around twenty years now and it’s always my go-to form of exercise whether I’m feeling stressed mentally or just exhausted physically.

For the last few years, my job required me to sit at a desk which can lead to bad posture along with neck, shoulder and back ache, so it’s really important for me to maintain my practise and look after my general core to prevent these issues developing.

In my experience, Pilates helps keep me balanced (in more ways than one), improves my overall flexibility and coordination, and helps build a strong centre: it also allows me to develop a good sense of awareness of my body so I’m quick to notice if something isn’t feeling right.

This is something I’m really passionate about and, due to this, I decided to begin my training as a Pilates Instructor!! My plan is to hold 1:1 sessions in my treatment room in Butleigh, and to later branch out into running small intimate classes.

I cannot wait to share this with you all once qualified; please like, share and follow in the meantime!! 🧘🏻‍♀️

Something I often hear from clients is how hard it can be to just stop and take a breath, whether it’s for five minutes, a few hours or even a weeks’ holiday; there seems to be an inate drive that pulls us towards being constantly busy and on-the-go all the time and, if we’re not, we can feel copious amounts of guilt and pressure for not being productive…

When did resting and doing ‘nothing’ become such a bad thing..? Our body needs rest, it thrives on it, but we often deny ourselves the opportunity to recharge, reset and reenergise; if we’re not allowing our bodies and minds to recover, we can never run on full steam when we do need to be busy.

A good way of taking a break and allowing yourself to come back into your body, to feel grounded with yourself and to reconnect, is to take some gentle exercise; simple fluid movement, nothing vigorous or strenuous, just stretching and working out tension, is a brilliant way of bringing balance back into your body, your mind and your life.

I am currently studying to become a Pilates Instructor and aim to be qualified within a few months; I specialise in women’s health and will be offering 1:1 sessions from my therapy room in Storrington, West Sussex.

Hello everyone,

I might be a month later starting than I’d intended but today I signed on the dotted line to begin my training as a Pilates Instructor!!

Within a few months, I’ll be looking to take on 1:1 clients from my therapy room in Storrington so watch this space and please email align.pilates@hotmail.com to register your interest if you’d like to start sessions.
