Week 7 is my favourite week in Sing and Sign Stage 1. We sing about our feelings. Are you talking to your child about how they're feeling? Here's why it's important:
Talking about feelings is an essential part of mental health and wellbeing. It helps to process emotions, reduces stress, and fosters stronger relationships. Our children are feeling so many things and we can help them to process. Even when preverbal, being able to sign what they're feeling can help us to resolve an issue.
When my daughter was tiny she saw another child crying and she signed 'sad' to me. Although she wasn't able to verbalise what was happening, she was able to emphasise with another child and understand the emotion.
Teaching 'happy', 'sad', 'angry', 'tired' etc is such a joy for me. It's teaching empowerment to our children and also helps us as adults to speak about how we are feeling, too. Our children are never too young to hear all these words and begin their path to understanding.
This is just one of the topics we explore. There's so many more! Here's where to find out more information about my next term:
