The power of mandalas
Have you looked beyond the intricate design and colours of mandalas and wondered about their origin?
The Sanskrit term "mandala" means "circle," or “disc” often forming of a circular pattern with intricate designs and symbols radiating from a central point. Mandalas are used in various spiritual traditions as tools for meditation and contemplation. They symbolize wholeness, unity, the eternal rhythms of the universe, and the cyclical nature of life.
They can be used as part of your meditation practice. Try this option for a 10-15 minute meditation:
🙏Choose your favourite mandala.
🙏Create a calm environment.
🙏Make yourself comfortable.
🙏Focus on he centre of the mandala at eye level. Begin by concentrating on the central point of the mandala. Let your gaze soften, allowing the patterns and designs to unfold naturally.
🙏Breathe mindfully and let the rhythm of your breath align with the patterns of the mandala.
🙏Follow the patterns gradually, and let your eyes explore the details of the mandala. Trace the patterns, circles, and shapes with your gaze.
🙏Acknowledge and let go of distractions, returning to your focus on the mandala
🙏Close your eyes and take a moment to reflect on your experience, noticing any sensations, feelings, or insights that arose during the meditation.
