Tamar Valley Osteopathy

Tamar Valley Osteopathy Women’s Health Osteopath helping you move out of pain and back to what you love. What are Osteopaths? What do Osteopaths do?

Blending psychology and physiology with hands-on treatment, education and rehab. Specialist in pregnancy & postnatal care, pregnancy massage, Mummy MOT® and hypnobirthing. Osteopaths are highly trained healthcare professionals, who are experts in the musculoskeletal system (muscles, bones and associated tissues). Osteopaths are recognised as an allied health profession by NHS England. In the UK, Osteopathy is a health profession regulated by UK law. Only those who are registered with the General Osteopathic Council (GOsC) are allowed to practise as or call themselves an Osteopath. To become an Osteopath, one must undertake specialist degree-level training, either a Bachelor of Science (BSc) or integrated Masters (MOst), plus complete over 1000 hours of clinical placement (Direct patient contact time). This takes a minimum of 4 years to complete

To maintain registration with GOsC, which is renewed annually, Osteopaths must meet mandatory continuous professional development (CPD): keeping skills and knowledge up-to-date and maintaining high standards of professional development. Osteopaths believe in the 4 principles, these are:
The body is a unit; a person is a unit of body, mind, and spirit. The body is capable of self-regulation, self-healing, and health maintenance. Structure and function are reciprocally interrelated. Osteopaths will use a wide variety of gentle hands-on techniques that focus on releasing the tension within the soft tissues, improving mobility and optimising function, as well as providing useful health advice and exercise if required. All treatment is based upon an understanding of the basic principles of body unity, self-regulation, and the interrelationship of structure and function. They will also work with, or refer you to, other healthcare professionals as needed to ensure you receive optimum care. Osteopaths take the time to understand each patient – your unique combination of symptoms, medical history and lifestyle. This helps to make an accurate diagnosis of the cause of your issue, (not just addressing the site of discomfort), and formulate a treatment plan with you that will achieve the best outcome.

👀👀 I hate to be the bearer of bad news… but the mental load in motherhood isn’t disappearing any time soon .

The seasons change.
Nappy bags and baby bottles soon turn into never ending school forms and back to back after-school clubs.

The logistics evolve — but the responsibility remains.
There’s rarely an 'easier' phase. Just different challenges.

And as mothers, we become incredibly skilled at juggling plates and keeping everyone else’s cup full.

That ongoing cognitive and emotional demand is the mental load!!

But we can meet it in two very different ways.

We can run on adrenaline — tired but wired, ignoring niggling pain, living in a low-grade state of stress that quietly keeps inflammation elevated and pain thresholds lower.

Or we can build capacity underneath it — calm, regulated, better supported, less reactive.

The load may be constant.

But your physiology doesn’t have to stay in survival mode.

That's why a whole-person approach matters.

Focusing on foundations like:

✅ Sleep (as realistically as possible)
✅ Consistency with movement
✅ Nourishing whole foods
✅ Nervous system regulation
✅ Proper support for your mind & body in this season of life

✨ You can't eliminate the mental load. But you can support the systems carrying it ✨

🔖 Save this for when you need the reminder - and follow along for more whole-person, evidence -informed support through pregnancy, birth, postpartum & beyond motherhood 💜

Let's remember this... your body has grown, carried and birthed a whole human being.

That is incredible!!

I'm a firm believer that postpartum shouldn’t be about 'bouncing back' or getting your 'old body' back. ⛔

It should be about rebuilding strength, restoring function and honouring the transformation your body has been through (because she just did extraordinary things and deserves the utmost love and respect!)

🔊 Your children won’t remember the size of your jeans.
They’ll remember you running after them on the beach 🔊

Women’s health osteopathy supports you as a whole during the postpartum period — whether that’s helping with postural discomfort like lower back pain, neck and shoulder tension from feeding, coccyx pain after birth, or pelvic floor symptoms such as leaking or urgency.

At Tamar Valley Osteopathy, I offer specialist Postpartum Osteopathy and Mummy MOT sessions to help you recover and rebuild in this season of life.

Because you deserve to enjoy motherhood feeling strong, supported and confident in your body.

A woman's body is constantly adapting....

And women's health osteopathy looks at the whole picture.

Honestly?
A women's health osteopath should be as normal (and as important 😉) in a woman's life as her hairdresser...

Because your body deserves ongoing support.

Knee pain is rarely just a “knee problem.”
Most of the time, it’s a sign that the hip, knee and ankle aren’t sharing the load evenly — so the knee ends up doing more work than it should.

Common contributors include:
• Hip weakness or tightness
• Foot or ankle stiffness
• Increased walking or activity
• Postpartum deconditioning
• Old injuries affecting how you move
• Flat feet or changes in how you load the leg

Osteopathy can help by improving movement through the whole leg, reducing irritation around the knee, and giving you simple strengthening strategies that make daily tasks feel easier again.

If your knee feels achy on stairs, sore after walking, or uncomfortable during everyday movement — you don’t have to put up with it.

Back pain is one of the most common things I see in clinic — and for most people, the cause isn’t just one thing. It’s usually a mix of posture, stress, muscle imbalance and everyday habits that create a cycle of tension and sensitivity.

Here are a few reasons back pain often keeps returning:

✨ You’re sitting more than you think — long periods in one position can make the back feel stiff or “locked up”.
✨ Your back is overworking when the hips, glutes or core aren’t supporting you.
✨ Stress, poor sleep or rushing can increase pain sensitivity through the nervous system.
✨ You stretch without strengthening — mobility is great, but without stability, the relief doesn’t last.
✨ You wait until it’s really bad before seeking support.

Osteopathy can help you break the cycle, ease pain, improve mobility and build long-term resilience. Each session includes hands-on treatment, movement guidance and simple strategies you can use at home.
If your back has been niggling, stiff, tight or painful — you don’t have to put up with it.

Pain in pregnancy is incredibly common — but that doesn’t mean it’s “just part of it.”

It’s not caused by relaxin or “instability.”

It’s about how your body adapts to new loads, postures, and emotional demands.

In clinic, I combine gentle manual therapy, functional movement, and education grounded in pain science and women’s health research.

The goal? To help you understand what’s happening, feel safer in movement, and restore confidence in your body.

Pregnancy is a time of incredible change — and your comfort matters too. 💜
