A step in the right direction definitely.

A new report by Dame Rachel de Souza, the Children's Commissioner for England, includes a recommendation for the continued roll-out of MHSTs to every school in England.

We’ve long campaigned for a paid counsellor to be available in every secondary school, academy and FE college in England, which lags behind Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland in its provision of funded school counselling.

Jo Holmes, our Children, Young People and Families Lead, has said counselling should be built into the MHST plans, and that our members are ready to step into paid therapy roles.

We’re calling for school MHSTs to have a clear referral pathway to funded counselling.

To the mistakes that made me
To the challenges that transformed me
To the experiences that stretched me
To the people who hurt me

To the struggles that overwhelmed me
To the heartbreak that shattered me
To the losses that saddened me
And to the pain that threatened to overpower me

Thank you for helping me to unlock my greatness
And blossom into a better version of me.

"Don’t prioritise your looks my friend, as they won’t last the journey.
Your sense of humour though, will only get better with age.
Your intuition will grow and expand like a majestic cloak of wisdom.
Your ability to choose your battles, will be fine-tuned to perfection.
Your capacity for stillness, for living in the moment, will blossom.
Your desire to live each and every moment will transcend all other wants.
Your instinct for knowing what (and who) is worth your time, will grow and flourish like ivy on a castle wall.
Don’t prioritise your looks my friend,
they will change forevermore, that pursuit is one of much sadness and disappointment.
Prioritise the uniqueness that make you you, and the invisible magnet that draws in other like-minded souls to dance in your orbit.
These are the things which will only get better."

THE HARDENING AND THE HATE

The first time the world breaks your heart
the shock is overwhelming
you learn, quite quickly
that life is cruel and often unfair
and so the hardening starts.

The next time the world breaks your heart
you get angry
at yourself
for not seeing it approach
and so the self-hatred begins.

As life goes on, you harden and you hate yourself
more and more
with every heartbreak that comes.

You harden and you hate
you hate and you harden…

And you don’t even see how your own cruelty
towards your self
is causing you even more pain
than the world itself.

How to end this cycle?

You soften, and you love.
You love and you soften…

And you know
that pain will always come
but there’s no need to make that worse
by joining in.
