Update: (13/10/2019) First of all, thank you for all your comments and pictures. We have so far been viewed by over 4 million people :) Many lovely people have requested more information on wrapping paper, and so instead of trying to reply to all those requests individually, we have decided to post some more information here.
According to RecycleNow.com, "Why don't some local authorities accept wrapping paper for recycling? The materials that go into making some wrapping paper result in it not always being accepted for recycling: Wrapping paper is often dyed, laminated and/or contains non-paper additives such as gold and silver coloured shapes, glitter, plastics etc which cannot be recycled. Some wrapping paper is very thin and contains few good quality fibres for recycling A lot of wrapping paper has sticky tape attached to it which makes it very difficult to recycle." Now, our own note on this: recycled wrapping paper does exist, some wrapping paper is also wrapped in plastic itself. If you choose recycled, or unrecycled paper, brown paper, newspapers, pillow cases, fabrics or anything else to wrap a present, it is a personal choice, and we encourage everyone to choose the option that is best for them.
