SHINING A LIGHT on Fraser Drummond in this month of Remembrance.

“Don’t ask me why but way back in 1983 and straight from school, I joined the British Army. The Royal Corps of Transport to be exact. I spent most of my military career in Germany eventually qualifying as a Tank Transporter Specialist. Following a short spell here and there, including Iraq, I returned to the UK to our Recruit Training Regiment in Aldershot and after a short final spell in Cyprus, and with 12 enjoyable years behind me, I hung up my "Boots Combat High".

For the next five years, I did actually resurrect my old army boots, pounding the UK's motorways as a long distance HGV driver however in 2000, I received my second pair of new work boots (this time rubber not leather), joining Wiltshire Fire Brigade where I spent a number of years rescuing cats from trees. I moved over to Fire Safety Inspector to the newly re-named, Dorset and Wiltshire Fire & Rescue Service, where I spent my remaining time of 16 years.

After 23 years those boots were also hung up and being semi-retired, I now work part time for Odette Funeral Director as a casual bearer. You might also see me on the odd ‘Call Out’ in the wee small hours.

I’ve been lucky enough to have had two very successful and rewarding careers in my life, both of which involved serving the public. I still maintain my connections with the British Army as an active member of the Royal British Legion, here in Calne”.

Well done Fraser and thank you for your service 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

Something to brighten your Sunday. Some of you may not know that Odette has another daughter (Tom’s twin) who escaped the funeral world for a life down under. Just over two years and Louise is working and living the dream on a Cattle Station in the Northern Territory with her partner Val and that’s not all, she’s been bargaining with the Aborigines and rescuing the odd animal or two. A little while ago the Aborigines caught and killed a kangaroo to eat, they found that it was carrying a little joey. Louise managed to secure the little one for $150, aborigines, you see, are not kind or compassionate to the furries of this world and Louise and Val have taken kittens and dogs from these people as well. Louise and Val are currently getting little joey rehabilitated and they are in contact with a chap called Brulga who has a sanctuary in Alice Springs and you can catch up with Brulga on iPlayer called Kangaroo Dundee. Little joey will make the journey over to Alice Springs for further care at some point. Heartbreak may be on the horizon but it will make way for other youngsters to come into Louise and Val’s care. Louise isn’t really too far removed from the family business after all, just giving care and love in another way. Looking forward to your next save ladies, keep up the good work!
