BSL Education

BSL Education Welcome to our alternative provision in Calne, Wiltshire! We offer a unique and individualized approach to education for children aged 4-13 years.

We provide a supportive and nurturing environment where they can thrive and reach their full potential. Blue Sky Learning was founded as an alternative educational pathway for students who find mainstream education challenging due to their social, emotional and mental health needs. We believe in giving our students a bespoke, kinaesthetic approach to enable them to access learning at their own pace and achieve success.

For many primary-aged children with SEMH needs, mainstream classrooms can feel overwhelming.

Research in child development and trauma-informed education highlights that overstimulation — noise, unpredictable transitions, crowded environments — can increase anxiety and trigger dysregulation.

At Blue Sky Learning, we reduce overstimulation by:

✔ Providing small group environments
✔ Creating predictable daily routines
✔ Limiting sensory overload
✔ Offering calm, structured spaces
✔ Using practical, hands-on learning

When overstimulation is reduced, we often see:

• Improved emotional regulation
• Increased focus and engagement
• Fewer behavioural escalations
• Greater confidence in learning
• Stronger adult-child relationships

Children cannot access learning if they are in a constant state of stress.

Structure, calm and predictability are not luxuries — they are essential foundations for progress.

𝐌𝐞𝐞𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐭𝐞𝐚𝐦 𝐌𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐲 – 𝐒𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐨𝐧

Sharon brings over 23 years of experience as a Teaching Assistant in a local primary school, where she found her role both rewarding and inspiring.

As a qualified ELSA she has extensive experience supporting children’s emotional wellbeing and helping families during challenging times.

She later moved into a behaviour support role in a local secondary school, where she continued to use her ELSA skills to support young people with their emotional needs.

Since joining Blue Sky Learning in October 2025, Sharon has been a valued member of the team. She now uses her wealth of knowledge, compassion and experience to support our pupils with their individual needs and learning journeys.

We’re delighted to have Sharon as part of the Blue Sky Learning team. 💙

𝐅𝐎𝐋𝐋𝐎𝐖 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐉𝐎𝐔𝐑𝐍𝐄𝐘 𝐎𝐅 𝐆𝐋𝐎𝐑𝐈𝐀 ✨🦄

From rusted and faded… to ready for a brand-new look.

Our student has been cleaning, sanding and preparing Gloria the unicorn for her big reveal next week — and we can’t wait to see the final result! 🎨

Through hands-on work like this, our students are developing:

🔧 Practical skills and safe tool use
🎯 Focus and attention to detail
🧠 Problem-solving and planning
💪 Patience and perseverance
🌱 Emotional regulation through structured activity
✨ Pride and confidence in completing a meaningful task

For young people with SEMH needs, practical projects provide a safe and positive way to build resilience, manage emotions and experience success.

At BSL we’re focusing on online safety and responsible internet use.

The internet offers incredible opportunities for learning, creativity and connection — but it’s important that young people know how to use it safely and responsibly.

At Blue Sky Learning, we encourage pupils to:

✅ Think before they share
✅ Keep personal information private
✅ Use respectful communication online
✅ Recognise unsafe or inappropriate content
✅ Speak to a trusted adult if something feels wrong

The internet can be a powerful tool for learning, research, creativity and building positive connections — when used safely.

𝐌𝐞𝐞𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐓𝐞𝐚𝐦 – 𝐉𝐨 💙

Meet Jo, our Data Analyst, who plays a key role in making sure every decision we make is informed, thoughtful, and centred around the needs of our SEND learners 📊✨

With over 20 years of experience working with SEN children, Jo brings a deep understanding of what meaningful progress really looks like.

By analysing data, she helps us better understand what each child needs and how they are progressing over time, ensuring support is always purposeful and child-focused. 💙

Jo also supports our learners during lunchtime and provides valuable guidance to our pupils, helping ensure consistency, care, and positive relationships throughout the day.
