Welcome to our alternative provision in Calne, Wiltshire! We offer a unique and individualized approach to education for children aged 4-13 years.

We provide a supportive and nurturing environment where they can thrive and reach their full potential. Blue Sky Learning was founded as an alternative educational pathway for students who find mainstream education challenging due to their social, emotional and mental health needs. We believe in giving our students a bespoke, kinaesthetic approach to enable them to access learning at their own pace and achieve success.

A couple of weeks ago, we launched a Parent Question Box to better understand the concerns families have about Alternative Provision.

Since then, we’ve received many emails and inbox messages from parents. Thank you to everyone who reached out — we have now caught up with our emails and truly appreciate your patience and openness.

Through our upcoming social media posts, we hope to help parents navigate the process of accessing support for their child, gain clarity around available options, and better understand what we do as an Alternative Provision provider. Our aim is to make information clearer, more accessible, and supportive for families at every stage.

💬 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 & 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐐𝐮𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐁𝐨𝐱 – 𝐐𝐮𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐀𝐧𝐬𝐰𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐝

We’re starting a new series for parents and carers, answering common questions in plain language — and today we’re starting with the basics:

What is an EHCP? (England/UK)

An EHCP (Education, Health and Care Plan) is a legal document for children and young people (up to 25) with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).

It explains:
✅ your child’s needs
✅ the support they must receive
✅ outcomes (goals)
✅ and the education setting/placement that should meet those needs

Who might need one?
Many children receive help through SEN Support, but an EHCP may be needed when a child requires more support than a mainstream school, nursery or college can usually provide.

📌 If you feel your child needs extra help, you can request an EHC Needs Assessment from your local authority.
✨ You don’t need a medical diagnosis to apply — decisions should be based on your child’s needs.

Did you know you can spot animal tracks in the snow?
We were lucky to have some snowy weather in Wiltshire last week, and our learners made the most of it with a brilliant Forest School session exploring the local area.

During today’s session, we visited the lake and discovered lots of fresh footprints in the snow.
Learners worked together to observe, compare and try to identify which animals had been nearby — great teamwork and problem-solving!

We found tracks from:
🐕 Dogs
🦌 Deer
🦌 Muntjac

…plus one mystery print we couldn’t identify! 👀

Meet Lee, who made an inspiring career change from IT to working with young children.
His approach with pupils is phenomenal — he connects with them through shared interests, clear communication, and a genuine understanding of their needs.
Lee also creates amazing 3D prints, which he is always excited to share with the children, adding creativity and curiosity to their learning experience.

Lee is also working hard towards his Forest School Leadership qualification and will soon be fully qualified, further strengthening our outdoor learning offer.

This week, our learners explored electricity and electrical appliances — and had some brilliant discussions along the way!

We looked at:
✅ Where electricity comes from (mains power or batteries)
✅ How appliances have changed over the years
✅ What life might be like without electricity?

The children shared thoughtful ideas about how electricity affects everyday life — including what would happen without fridges, traffic lights, and automatic doors!

We’re an independent Alternative Provision, and we’re enroling now.

Our pupils have been busy creating the most amazing Christmas decorations. Their creativity, focus and festive spirit have filled our provision with joy and colour. We’re so proud of the beautiful work they’ve produced!

Crafting offers so many benefits for our pupils. It helps build fine motor skills, supports sensory regulation, encourages communication, and boosts focus and confidence.
It also gives children a creative outlet to express themselves and develop social skills while having fun! 💙
