BSL Education Welcome to our alternative provision in Calne, Wiltshire! We offer a unique and individualized approach to education for children aged 4-13 years.

We provide a supportive and nurturing environment where they can thrive and reach their full potential. Blue Sky Learning was founded as an alternative educational pathway for students who find mainstream education challenging due to their social, emotional and mental health needs. We believe in giving our students a bespoke, kinaesthetic approach to enable them to access learning at their own pace and achieve success.

This term, our learners have been enjoying a wide range of Forest School experiences, building confidence, resilience, and practical outdoor skills.

From muddy fields to woodland adventures, learners have explored and connected with nature, discovering wildlife habitats such as field mouse dens and developing curiosity about the natural world.

Through activities like team games, including Ninja Squirrels, learners have strengthened their communication, teamwork, and physical skills in a fun and engaging environment.

โœจ Itโ€™s been fantastic to see everyone grow in confidence and enjoy learning outdoors.

Did you know that under Section 19 of the Education Act 1996, local authorities (such as Wiltshire Council) have a legal duty to ensure children receive an educationโ€”even if they cannot attend school?

This applies when a child is:
โœ”๏ธ Too unwell to attend school
โœ”๏ธ Experiencing mental health challenges
โœ”๏ธ Permanently excluded
โœ”๏ธ Unable to attend due to SEND or other needs

๐–๐ก๐š๐ญ ๐ฆ๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ญ ๐ญ๐ก๐ž ๐ฅ๐จ๐œ๐š๐ฅ ๐š๐ฎ๐ญ๐ก๐จ๐ซ๐ข๐ญ๐ฒ ๐๐จ?
They must arrange suitable alternative provision that:
Meets the childโ€™s age, ability, and needs
It is full-time where possible
Starts as soon as possible (usually within 15 school days)

This might include alternative provision settings like Blue Sky Learning.

In our recent PSHE session, student explored the importance of online safety, media awareness, and making safe choices.

We began with an imagination activity, encouraging students to visualise everyday objects and situations.
This helped develop focus, communication, and creative thinking.

Student then looked at film images and BBFC age rating symbols, discussing what each rating means and why age guidance is important.
This led to a great conversation about making safe choices when watching films and online content.

We also talked about what to do if something online or on screen feels upsetting, reinforcing the importance of speaking to a trusted adult.

Did you know students at our provision can earn the Headteacherโ€™s Award for their achievements and positive behaviour?

One of our students received the Headteacherโ€™s Award after earning 20 gems on the Gem Tree! ๐Ÿ’Ž๐ŸŒณ

The final gem was awarded for showing great resilience in maths, demonstrating determination and a positive attitude towards learning.

The student had the opportunity to visit the Headteacher, receive a certificate, and choose a reward from the prize box.
