BSL Education Welcome to our alternative provision in Calne, Wiltshire! We offer a unique and individualized approach to education for children aged 4-13 years.

We provide a supportive and nurturing environment where they can thrive and reach their full potential. Blue Sky Learning was founded as an alternative educational pathway for students who find mainstream education challenging due to their social, emotional and mental health needs. We believe in giving our students a bespoke, kinaesthetic approach to enable them to access learning at their own pace and achieve success.

Meet Sarah.
Sarah is a kind, patient and experienced member of our team who helps young people feel safe, supported and understood.
At Blue Sky Learning, we know that positive relationships are at the heart of every success.

She delivers LEGOยฎ-based therapy sessions, making it easier for young people to practise communication, teamwork and social skills in a fun and meaningful way. ๐Ÿ’™

We know how difficult after school can be for children with SEN โ€” and for parents and carers supporting them at home. ๐Ÿ’™
When a child has used up their energy coping through the day, emotions can surface quickly once theyโ€™re back in a safe place.

Thatโ€™s why weโ€™re sharing a few gentle, practical strategies that may help with emotional balance after school:

โœ… Start with a low-demand transition (10โ€“20 minutes of calm time)
โœ… Snack + drink first (hunger and thirst can increase overwhelm)
โœ… Offer a quiet activity (a book, drawing, sensory play, headphones)
โœ… Give simple choices to reduce pressure (โ€œWould you like a break or a short walk?โ€)
โœ… Acknowledge feelings calmly (โ€œI can see today has been a lot.โ€)

Every child is different โ€” and what helps may change day to day.
The key is consistency, reassurance, and taking things one small step at a time.

We enjoyed a wonderful Forest School session on a crisp day outdoorsโ€”exploring puddles, investigating frozen water, and noticing how nature changes in colder weather.
There was lots of curiosity, laughter and hands-on learning throughout the morning.

To finish, we gathered together to toast marshmallows, shared a warm moment around the fire and celebrated a great session. ๐Ÿ”ฅโœจ

Last week, we had the opportunity to meet with a Calne councillor who is dedicated to supporting neurodivergent pupils.
Weโ€™re really grateful they took the time to visit our provision and learn more about the work we do at Blue Sky Learning.

It was a valuable conversation about inclusion, early support, and the importance of creating more nurturing spaces where children with SEND can feel safe, understood, and able to thrive. We truly appreciate their commitment to improving opportunities for children and young people with additional needs across our community.

Weโ€™re looking forward to collaborating with them in the future to help strengthen support for SEND families in Wiltshire. ๐Ÿ’™

We took learning outside and turned numbers into a real-world adventure.

We headed around the estate counting different types of vehicles โ€” cars, vans, bikes, and more.
Once back, we added everything up to see which category was the most popular.

This hands-on activity helps young people:
โœจ Build number confidence
โœจ Strengthen counting and comparison skills
โœจ Engage in real-world maths
โœจ Stay motivated through active learning

This week we dived into the fun world of onomatopoeia โ€” words that sound like the noise they describe, such as pop, buzz, bang, and splash!

Our learners created brilliant visual representations of different onomatopoeia words and then verbally used them in sentences.
This hands-on approach really helped bring the sounds to life! ๐ŸŽถ๐Ÿ–๏ธ

A fantastic session full of imagination, language exploration and confidence building.

Hands-on artistic projects are so important for SEND learners โ€” they support sensory exploration, fine-motor development, problem-solving and confidence building.

This week, our learner absolutely loved getting stuck into making their own SpongeBob SquarePants model!
He used tissue paper to layer the base, then carefully added the details like the nose, mouth and eyes.
Such fantastic focus, creativity and pride in their work.
