Just to reassure anyone who might be concerned / confused following some media reports yesterday. Scientific evidence confirms that paracetamol is safe to take in pregnancy. Uncontrolled high temperatures or significant pain experienced by women during pregnancy can cause problems for the unborn child - it is important that paracetamol is taken if required in these circumstances. There is further information in this link.

The Medicines & Healthcare products Regulatory Agency confirm that taking paracetamol during pregnancy remains safe and there is no evidence it causes autism in children.

***Delays with blood test filing***
Recent changes at the Nottingham Hospital labs have meant that the way GP practices receive blood results has changed in the last week. This has meant results are coming through multiple times and individually rather than as a 'batch' as previously. This is causing a HUGE increase in work for the practice. It has resulted in delays in filing and interpreting blood tests. In Calverton we are trying our best to avoid any impact on patient appointments but other local practices have had to reduce appointments to deal with this.
This is happening across Nottinghamshire. We are told there are teams working to resolve this issue. In the meantime please bear with us. Please also be aware that this may result in differences in how you see your results on your online record and how we are able to file them with a comment.

Practices complain of being "bombarded" with blood test results because of new IT systems.

There are some news headlines this morning suggesting that tirzepatide (otherwise known as Mounjaro) can now be prescribed by GPs. This is not quite accurate.

In due course, the injections will be able to be prescribed through weight management programmes for specific groups of patients, as detailed below:

“People with at least 4 of the following 5 health conditions plus a BMI of at least 40….

type 2 diabetes mellitus
high blood pressure
heart disease
obstructive sleep apnoea (when your breathing stops and starts while you sleep)
abnormal blood fats (dyslipidaemia)”

Weight-loss injections Some people with the highest clinical need may be prescribed weight loss injections on the NHS for managing obesity. Your GP can refer you […]

Flu cases are on the increase, but there are some things you can do to help get better more quickly 👇

😴 rest and sleep
🌡️ keep warm
💊take paracetamol or ibuprofen to lower your temperature and treat aches and pains
👦give paracetamol or ibuprofen to your child if they're distressed or uncomfortable. Check the packaging or leaflet to make sure the medicine is suitable for your child, or speak to a pharmacist or GP if you're not sure
💧drink plenty of water to avoid dehydration (your p*e should be light yellow or clear)

The best way to prevent flu is by getting vaccinated.

You can reduce the spread of flu by washing your hands often with warm water and soap, covering your mouth with a tissue when you cough and sneeze and binning used tissues as quickly as possible.
