Due to the current high number of flu cases in our hospitals and the local community, from today, Tuesday 9 December, all patients and visitors are advised to wear face masks in clinical areas as a temporary measure to reduce the risk of transmission.

Masks and hand sanitisers will be available on each ward at Frimley Park and Wexham Park hospitals for visitors to use. In addition, our staff working in clinical wards will wear fluid-resistant surgical masks to help protect themselves, our patients and visitors.

Flu vaccination is important because flu can be dangerous and even life threatening for some people, particularly those with certain health conditions and young children.

If your child does get flu, they may need treatment in hospital and may also transmit it to other members of your family who may become unwell (children are super-spreaders of flu). After the elderly (aged over 75 years), children under the age of 5 years have the greatest risk of being admitted to hospital with flu.

Fortunately, your child can be protected from flu by having a flu vaccine each year. The children's flu vaccine is given to children through their nostrils. A nasal spray is used as it is the safest and effective way to give children the vaccine. The flu vaccine is offered every year to children from the age of two years (on 31st August) at your GP practice, in primary school or community clinics for children aged 5 to 11 years (reception to year 6), and from this year to all secondary school children.

Children at primary and secondary school will be offered the vaccine though the NHS school-aged immunisation service. If your child misses their vaccine at school; it is likely that they can attend a community clinic to have it given; simply contact your local school-aged vaccination service (your child’s school will have the contact details). If your child is not yet in school, your GP practice will be able to give them the vaccine.

Flu vaccinations are also recommended for some adults who are more likely to get seriously ill if they get flu. You are eligible for a free flu vaccine if you are pregnant, over 50, or have certain health conditions – click the link for more information to see who is eligible: https://www.nhs.uk/vaccinations/flu-vaccine/

It's December, and we know what that means.... is BACK!

Though he seems to have had a change of heart this year. He's ditched his mischievous ways and is doing his utmost to stay on the good list - he'll be popping up throughout the month we're sure, showcasing his best behaviour and showing Father Christmas what a good elf he can be 💙

Oh, what a night! Yesterday's Staff Awards 2025, sponsored by Frimley Health Charity, was a spectacular evening for the trust – and a true reflection of the passion and dedication of all our teams.

Chief People Officer, Matt Joint, says; “It was great to be able to take the time to recognise our staff for the fantastic things that they do – individuals and teams who go the extra mile to benefit others and provide better patient care. Their will to make things better and the level of compassion for patients was awe inspiring.”

Thirty-two individuals and teams were shortlisted from nearly 800 entries across ten categories, with the winners chosen by our panel of 16 judges.

Winners included Rodney, a volunteer with the trust since 2018 who recently returned to hospital with multiple pairs of glasses to help a patient read in her final days, an act of kindness that deeply improved her experience, and Lucy, a compassionate and visionary leader who has transformed her department through advocacy, innovation, and support.

Congratulations to all our winners, our finalists and every single person and team nominated this year 💙 ✨
