With all the uncertainty and volatility in the world now, it’s helpful to check in with what’s within your circle of influence.

How often do you check what you’re focusing on to see if what you’re thinking and feeling is actually helpful to you?

Are you grappling with feeling helpless or powerless when faced with what feels outside of your control.

If so, then it’s easy to miss what’s within your control.

This is not a modern problem made more challenging by the current escalation in aggression, wars, misogyny, and erosion of hard-fought rights.

This problem of "Where do I place my focus" and "Is it helpful" goes all the way back to the ages.

The Stoics of ancient Greece called it the Dichotomy of Control focusing on what’s within your control and what’s outside of it.

In the First Aid for Feelings Manual the invitation is to focus more on what you can influence, where you have agency or the ability to take action.

And, importantly, the invitation is to recognise that even though some things are outside of your direct influence that doesn’t mean that you can’t be concerned about it.

In First Aid for Feelings the question is always ‘Is it helpful?’ so here my invitation to you is to get curious about your thoughts and feelings and make choices about where you place your focus.

Do you suffer from Tabititis? This experience can be challenging, disorientating and often embarrassing or even shameful.

Anecdotal reports suggests that many of us suffer regularly from this experience or condition that I’ve decided to name “Tabititis”.

Unfortunately many of us don’t know what this actually is, why it shows up or how to deal with it.

On Thursday this week I’ll be facilitating the weekly Drive the Network meeting and Tabititis will be our focus.

The meeting is for entrepreneurs, freelancers, business leaders and social enterpreneurs (like yours truly here!).

👉 Join us on Thursday, March 5th at 10am UK time to find out about:

‣Predisposing factors like genetic factors

‣Perpetuating factors like food and other people

‣Symptoms Checklist

‣Treatment Protocols

IMAGE DESCRIPTION

The image is a square orange graphic with a darker rectangle containing white text. At the top, in large bold letters, is the word “Tabititis,” with the label “Noun” in italics beneath it. A thin turquoise line separates the heading from the body text. The text describes “Tabititis” as a playful “condition” named after a computer problem caused by having too many browser tabs open, overloading the computer’s RAM and CPU and causing lag, freezes, or crashes. It then compares this to humans experiencing input overload that affects short‑term memory, attention, and executive function, showing up as brain fog, difficulty making decisions, aggression, withdrawal, or shutdown. In the bottom-right corner of the brown rectangle there is a small white circular icon with a cross sign inside it.

When you struggle to care for and prioritise your own needs, eventually you’ll struggle to support the needs of others.

This is why self-care is vital not just for you but also for your loved ones.

In this meditation you're guided through the three aspects that help you cultivate your self-care using the Buddhist metaphor of ‘Watering the seeds’.

Feelings are information and it's more helpful to be curious than critical.

We always have a recommendation in the Helpful newsletter from a reader, but this time it’s Jacques who wants to make a recommendation saying:

❝Thor taught me how to use Sue Beer’s Heart Anchor a few months ago and it’s become one of the simplest yet most powerful tools in my daily routine. At first, I wasn’t sure what to expect—could something so gentle really make a difference? But within days I noticed I was meeting stressful moments with more calm and clarity.

What I love most is how natural it feels. The practice doesn’t ask me to fight my feelings or think my way out of them; it guides me back into my heart, back to a place of steadiness and warmth. It’s like having a quiet friend inside who reminds me that I’m safe, connected, and capable of handling whatever’s in front of me.

Heart Anchor has helped me move through challenges with more ease and helped me reconnect with myself in a way that feels lasting and real. It’s a great addition to the First Aid for Feelings techniques I’ve learnt and now I honestly can’t imagine starting my day without it ❞

The Helpful newsletter is sent you every few weeks.

In addition to the You recommend section from readers like you, the newsletter has got blogs or videos on topics like pain, fatigue, stress and anxiety, news on latest research as well as events and activities.

I recently recorded this podcast episode for Mental Health Matters After Hours. We talk about First Aid for Feelings, health and emotional literacy and how AI and health tech can help.

Here’s what Dr Audrey Tang and Judith say about the programme:

❝Does your brain and your body feel completely separate? As much as many of us would like to, we can’t “think” ourselves out of difficult situations…we have to process and feel them. In this really fascinating episode we’re joined by Thor A Rain, founder of First Aid for Feelings and we talk about why we can feel disconnected and what we can do about it…plus which AI tech can help us best (when we ask the right questions!)❞

CONTENT WARNING: We discuss suicidal ideation.

Mental Health Matters After Hours, supports you around the clock. It’s your second dose of our expert-led show from the UK hosted by Chartered psychologist Dr Audrey Tang, and Judith Crosier. Our morning show focuses on Workplace Wellbeing, and our night show keeps you company with all things mental health and wellness.

The episode is 53 minutes and you can watch it on e360TV as well as on YouTube on the Wellbeing Media TV channel.

You’re not lazy if you live on autopilot – you’re human.

Research tracking people’s real-time actions found that about two-thirds of daily behaviours are kicked off by habit, and 88% are carried out automatically. The surprise? Most of these autopilot actions actually support our goals, like commuting, cooking or getting ready for work. That means the real leverage isn’t forcing more willpower, but gently rewiring your environment and routines so that your default habits are the ones that truly serve your wellbeing.

Are you struggling with habits that are unhelpful or costing you your health?

👉 Check out the Services section on the First Aid for Feelings website to see how we can support you to update your wiring, your ‘operating system’ and your habits so that you can feel better.
