Do you ever notice how your whole body tenses up when you’re stressed?

I often do and one gentle way I’ve found to release that tension is through slow, mindful yoga stretches. 🧘🏻‍♀️

The meditative quality of yoga can activate what’s known as the relaxation response, helping your body shift out of stress mode and into a calmer state.

Some of the benefits include:

🌿 Lowering blood pressure, heart rate, and breathing rate

🌿 Reducing cortisol - the hormone linked to stress

🌿 Supporting mood and easing anxious feelings

🌿 Improving sleep quality over time

If you or someone you care about could use a quiet reset, just a few minutes of stretching might help you feel more grounded.

I share evidence-based mental health insights like this regularly. Feel free to follow along or tag someone who might find this helpful today!

Did you know that music and breathing exercises can completely shift your mood? 🎶

According to new research of Brighton and Sussex Medical School, combining high-ventilation breathwork with music may lead to altered states of awareness or 'psychedelic-like' states.

This includes changes in brain blood flow, reduced negative emotions, and even feelings of connection and calm.

I find it fascinating that natural, evidence-based tools like these can offer such therapeutic potential. 🌿

Do you feel like you're always just one step away from burnout? 💼

It’s often not because you’re doing anything wrong.

It’s the result of chronic pressure, blurred boundaries, and the mental load of high responsibility at work.

Over time, your nervous system stays stuck in “go mode,” making it harder to rest, reflect, or reset.

That’s why I offer Strategic Psychological Coaching, a structured, evidence-based approach designed to help professionals break that cycle over 90 days.

If you're a professional who’s tired of just coping, this programme offers space to think, tools to shift, and strategies to move forward with clarity and confidence.

Fellas, do you ever feel like you’ve just got to “get on with it”, even when things feel heavy?

This month marks Men’s Mental Health Awareness Month.

It’s a moment to recognise that men’s emotional struggles are valid, and worth talking about.

According to research, in England, around 12.5% of men live with a mental health disorder, yet many hesitate to reach out.

The pressure to stay strong, avoid “burdening” others, or keep emotions under wraps can make it harder to speak up.

But tending to your mental health isn’t a sign of weakness - it’s a quiet kind of strength. 💪

If you or someone you know is finding it tough, remember that support and tools are out there...

And taking that first step to talk can make all the difference. 🌿

So, what’s one thing that helps you feel lighter when life feels heavy and have you ever shared that with someone else?

Let me know your thoughts in the comments!

Does Halloween feel more overwhelming than exciting for you?

If so, you're not alone. For some people, the holiday can stir up feelings of unease or distress due to things like trauma, grief, or social anxiety.

It’s important to recognise this and offer support.

If you know someone who finds Halloween challenging, here are a few ways to help:

🎃 Ask and Listen
- Start with a simple question and really hear their response.

🎃 Limit Triggers Together
- Identify and avoid things like loud noises or scary costumes.

🎃 Create an 'Exit Plan'
- Agree on a plan to leave a situation if it becomes too much.

🎃 Offer Sensory-Friendly Alternatives
- Suggest a movie at home or a quiet activity.

🎃 Encourage Self-Care and Boundaries
- Remind them it’s okay to say no to social events.

Halloween doesn’t have to be an all-or-nothing celebration. By being mindful and supportive, we can help make it a more inclusive and comfortable time for everyone.

If you or someone you know struggles with anxiety or stress, my free Safe Place Visualisation is a simple, guided exercise that can help you find calm.

Do you notice your breathing gets shallow when you feel stressed?

That’s part of the fight-or-flight response, which keeps stress hormones like cortisol and adrenaline circulating.

Deep, paced breathing helps calm this response, reducing tension, and supporting your overall wellbeing.

Here’s a simple way to try it:

💨 Sit or lie down somewhere quiet.
💨 Inhale slowly through your nose for 4 counts, letting your chest and belly rise.
💨 Exhale gently through your mouth or nose for 6 counts.
💨 Repeat this cycle 10 times.

You can use this practice any time you feel tense and with regular use it can become a steady anchor in moments of stress.

Parents, are you concerned about how screen time affects your child's mental health?

The truth is, the research is still evolving and while headlines often simplify it, what really matters is how, when, and why screens are used.

Too much or poorly managed screen time can interfere with sleep, mood, and focus, but thoughtful use can also create opportunities for learning and connection.

I encourage healthier habits and help young people develop digital resilience.

Here are some evidence-informed strategies you can try:

📱 Set boundaries - no devices at meals or before bed (adults included).
📱 Keep bedrooms screen-free for better sleep.
📱 Model healthy habits - children copy what they see.
📱 Co-view and talk about content to build awareness.
📱 Choose age-appropriate platforms and explain why.
📱 Encourage offline activities that build confidence.

I explored this in more detail on my blog, which you can read through the link in our bio.

How badly does chronic stress impact us?

According to a new report, immune cells released from bone marrow in the skull due to chronic stress could lead to depression.

The findings, which were published in Nature, are very important in determining depression and anxiety treatment.

What scientists found was that inflammation markers in those who carried constant stress were indicative of presenting with depressive symptoms after prolonged exposure.

Once the cells were blocked, those markers lowered, as did the signs of low moods. For those who do not find antidepressants helpful, this could present a different option once it is refined in the future.
