On Remembrance Day, we were honoured to welcome members of the Cambridge Joint Services and Veterans Club to Alex Wood House.

It was a moving experience listening to the brave and inspiring stories shared by Ken and David, who both served our country with courage and dedication.

Their reflections reminded us of the sacrifices made by so many to protect our freedom, and their visit filled the room with gratitude and respect. We thank them sincerely for taking the time to share their experiences with us.

"They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning, We will remember them.
We will remember them."

Thank you to Ken from the Cambridge Joint Services and Veteran's Club for his reading to us on Remembrance Day.

We have been busy making our second Christmas Cake.

The aroma of mixed spice, fruit, and maybe a hint of brandy filling the home… it’s was almost impossible not to sneak a spoonful before baking. Tempted as we were, the cake made it to the oven.

Remember, remember the Fifth of November,
Gunpowder, treason and plot.
I see no reason why gunpowder treason
Should ever be forgot.

Making a Guy used to be such a big part of Bonfire Night fun — choosing the outfit, stuffing him with newspaper until he got that perfect lumpy shape, then proudly displaying him with a “Penny for the Guy?” sign.

We have had great fun choosing an outfit for our Guy and stuffing him.

Ohhh, you do the Hokey Cokey!

What a fantastic time we had last week with a performance from Magenta Slipperz.

The Hokey Cokey is one of those songs everyone knows and you just can't help but sing along and do the actions.

It's beginning to feel a lot like Christmas at Alex Wood House.

Our first Christmas cake has been made: the smell of fruit soaking in brandy, spices in the air, and ovens working overtime. 🍰

Over the coming weeks we shall be feeding our cake with a drop or two of Brandy.

We are looking forward to decorating it, and can't wait to sample the cake.

What is your favourite Christmas Tradition?

A sparkling, sensational performance from Magenta Slipperz this afternoon which brought smiles, laughter and a touch of glamour to our day.

Magenta Slipperz performed a variety of toe tapping tunes which prompted movement and lifted everyone's spirits.

Entertainment at its most joyful.
