We are pleased to share highlights from the launch of the .

Hosted by the NHS with Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and delivered with our partners at Health Innovation East and Cambridge University Health Partners, the Eastern SDE is the largest regional research resource of its kind in the UK. It provides safe access to deidentified data from NHS organisations serving almost twelve million people, enabling high quality research in the public interest.

A big thank you to everyone who joined us on Monday for the launch of the Eastern England Secure Data Environment. Your support, ideas and enthusiasm made the event a real success.

It was inspiring to see researchers, clinicians and data colleagues come together with a shared commitment to safe, secure access to de identified NHS data for research across our region.

Earlier this week, we marked the launch of the Eastern England Secure Data Environment, one of the largest regional health data research initiatives in England.

Uniting the East of England and East Midlands, this NHS hosted platform will support safer, faster access to de identified data for approved research that advances clinical studies, drug discovery and precision medicine for almost 12 million people.

We are pleased to announce that the East Midlands Secure Data Environment (SDE) has now merged with the East of England SDE. From 1 February 2026, we are operating as a single, unified Eastern England SDE under common operating and governance arrangements.

This consolidation strengthens our regional capabilities and enables us to deliver a more seamless, consistent service across our expanded geography. We remain fully committed to supporting approved researchers to securely access data for high‑quality research in the public interest, accelerating discoveries that improve outcomes for patients and the public.
