🔷️ The Resuscitation Council UK Resuscitation Council UK has published its 2025 Resuscitation Guidelines, outlining the latest evidence based best practices for resuscitation and emergency care across all age groups and healthcare settings in the UK.

Here are a few of the key updates:

📌 Resuscitation education: Introducing CPR education from early childhood (ages 4–6) and reinforcing it throughout school and professional training, using simulation and gamified learning
✅️ AG First Aid Training already provides this with our popular Early Years First Aid Programme and Junior First Aid Programme for schools

📌 First aid: A new section focused on bystander response, with updated guidance for emergencies including bleeding, choking, overdose, stroke, and trauma.

📌 Basic and advanced life support: Updated advice on chest compressions,
defibrillation, airway management, and the role of ambulance call handlers.

📌 Paediatrics: Updated hand positioning for infant CPR.

📣 As these new standards shape the way we deliver our training, they’ll gradually be introduced into our courses where applicable. The RCUK are allowing time for educators to get familiar with the updates and for us to refresh our resources, ensuring a smooth transition for all our learners.

🔷️🎃🔷️ HALLOWEEN IS EXCITING FOR CHILDREN....SWEETS GALLORE!
But keep Halloween safe remembering to encourage children to chew their sweets and be aware of the choking risk. Check your child's sweetie bucket...are there sweets in there that are not age appropriate for them to have?

* If choking is mild encourage child to cough

* IF OBSTRUCTION HAS NOT CLEARED, shout for help, don't leave the child
* Lean child forward, smaller child over your knee so the head is lower than the chest
* Give 5 firm back blows between the shoulder blades with the palm of your hand. Check between blow and stop if obstruction has cleared

* IF OBSTRUCTION HAS STILL NOT CLEARED, kneel or stand behind the child. Place both you arms around their waist.
Make a fist with one hand and place it just above the belly button (below the ribs) with you thumb inwards. Grasp this first with your other hand
* Thrust sharply inwards and upwards. Try this up to 5 times. Check between thrusts and stop if the obstruction has cleared
* Repeat if obstruction has not cleared with another 5 back blows and further 5 abdominal thrusts.

* If treatment seems ineffective shout for help and ask someone to call 999/112 for emergency help

WISHING EVERYONE A SAFE AND HAPPY HALLOWEEN.

❓What should an adrenaline auto-injector (AAI) look like? ❓
Adrenaline degrades over time and may be less effective after the expiry date, so make sure you replace your adrenaline devices on time.
Check your AAIs (Jext and EpiPen) regularly to make sure the liquid is clear and colourless. If it seems discoloured or contains particles, replace it.

Remember to sign up to your device's free expiry alert service via the manufacturer's website.

A super group and great day was had.

We spend a great deal of time on choking now either the new EYFS requirements for first aid and lots of extra time given to practicing infant and child CPR. Building practitioner confidence with first aid in the workplace.

🔷️ The European Resuscitation Council have released their updated Resuscitation Guidance 2025.

Whilst there were no major changes to current practice in both First Aid and Advanced Resuscitation, the 2 finger CPR and Chest Thrust technique for INFANTS has been removed, replaced by the 2 Thumb encircling method.

Anterior - Posterior (AP) defibrillation pad position in children under 25kg (roughly below 8 years old) is also recommended.

More information is to follow on the UK Resuscitation Council Guidelines shortly.

🎃 ONE OF THE MOST EAGERLY AWAITED NIGHTS of the year is coming.....🎃
Keep Halloween safe remembering to encourage children to be aware of choking risks. Lollipops on sticks can completely block a child's airway!

Keep repeating this sequence if obstruction has not cleared.

If the treatment seems ineffective, shout for help and ask for someone to call 999/112 for emergency help.
