🔷️ YES, THERE HAVE BEEN SOME CHANGES in Paediatric First Aid. Infant, Child and Adolescent Child CPR. An infant is defined as birth -1 year, a child 1-12 years and an adolescent 13-18 years.

Has CPR changed? Yes, slightly. You provide 5 rescue breaths to these age groups firstly followed now by 15 compressions, then 2 breaths, repeating the sequence of 15 - 2.

On our Paediatric Infant and Child First Aid courses we practice CPR handover, 4 minutes continuous CPR today with these lovely ladies who worked hard together. The sun was shining and on our full bodied manikin, it was tough...keeping the rate and depth of compressions going.

To keep up to date contact us for more information on how we can support your training requirements in the workplace.

🔷️ This is the DEATH MASK of a young woman who drowned in the River Seine in the 1880s. As was customary in those days, her co**se was put on display in the Paris mortuary, in the hope that someone might recognize her and claim her body. The pathologist on duty became entranced by the girl with the enigmatic half-smile, and so he commissioned a plaster cast made of her face. This mask was replicated many times over. She became known as "L'Inconnue de la Seine,” or “The Unknown Woman of the Seine.”
In 1955, a toymaker named Asmund Laerdal created what we now know as the CPR doll. Asmund wanted his mannequin to have a natural appearance. Remembering a mask on the wall of his grandparents' house many years earlier, he decided that the L'Inconnue de la Seine would become the face of Resusci Anne - the CPR doll. So you see, this anonymous woman who drowned in the 19th century is responsible for saving many, many lives the world over. It is said that she has the most kissed face of all time. I hope you enjoyed this little

🔷️ WHAT DO YO DO if come across someone laying on the floor and not moving? Complete an initial assessment!

⚠️ Danger - check it is safe for you to help. Check the environment. Could you be injured? Can you see blood? Put on gloves if you have them.

🗣Response - speak loudly and clearly asking "can I help you?" Do they respond to your voice or a firm tap on the collar bone?

📞 CALL 999 or 112 IF THEY ARE UNRESPONSIVE!

🩸Catastrophic Bleeding - do they have a severe bleed that is spurting?

✋️CONTROL a catastrophic bleed before moving on.

🤷‍♀️ Airway - is their airway clear from obstructions? Look inside the mouth.

🫁 Breathing - check breathing! Look, listen and feel for up to 10 seconds placing your ear and cheek over their nose and mouth feeling for any breath. Look at their chest can you see normal breathing? (expect min 2 breaths for an adult, min 4 breaths for a child) Can you hear any strange noises or sounds in breathing?

If they are not breathing, START CPR and apply an AED if available.

🔷️ WHEN YOU"RE TRYING to do the admin and someone has to get involved. Nice support pillow though! 🤣 I haven't introduced this little character often here but many of our course clients and learners who have met him at the studio space on breaks, ask after him. This is Arnie! He is the one who is helping the AG First Aid Training expansion into provision of First Aid for Pets later in 2026!

🔷️ WELCOME TO MY SUNDAY EVENING 🙄 WHAT DO YOU DO IF you end up with splashinv burning hot oil over your legs...and the shower doesn't get quite cold enough? Don't immerse yourself in a bath of cold water! Keep pouring cold water over the area for a minimum of 20 minutes to cool down the area. Cover with cling film to to minimise nfection and help to reduce pain.

When should you seek medical attention. If more than a 5% superficial burn. If more than a 1% partial thickness burn. 9% or more partial thickness burn cause hypovoleamic shock...this becomes life threatening. Always serk medical attention for full thickness burns.

🔷️ HELP SAVE LIVES! This is what First Aid is all about. Our Emergency First Aid at Work Level 3 today saw a brilliant group of people from all different professions coming together to learn what to do in a life threatening medical emergency. To update and refresh skills.

Sometimes its not just about having to "do this" for workplace requirements although these guys are all certified now as named first aiders in their workplace. Having a basic knowledge and understanding of first aid means that you could help save loved ones.

🔷️ NOTICE!! PAEDIATRIC FIRST AID - has there been changes and updates? YES‼️ The new UK Resuscitation Council Guidelines were set in September 2025 and awarding bodies and training providers are embedding the training updates and new guidelines within all their training and courses.

Does this mean what I've learnt just before the changes is now out of date and wrong? NO‼️ It isn't that what you've learnt is disregarded. It is a First Aiders RESPONSIBILTY though to keep up to date with any changes in first aid. DO YOU NEED AN UPDATE FOR YOUR FIRST AIDERS?

Contact AG First Aid Training for more information as we can support your Paediatric First Aiders with the updates.
