🔷️ CPR and DEFIBRILLATOR TRAINING! If someone suffers a CARDIAC ARREST the only chance of survival is with use of a defibrillator. Effective Chest Compressions keeps oxygen supply to the brain. Chest Compressions DO NOT restart the heart! So why is it that a defibrillator restarts the heart? does a defibrillator restart the heart? NO!!
A defibrillator will stun the heart when there is no electrical activity and the most common rhythm of the heart in a cardiac arrest is VF ( Ventricular Fibrillation ) this is quivering of heart and a loss of pulse. Check out the pics!

🔷️ D R A B If you find your first aid training "DRAB", which you won't with AG First Aid Training... but you could always remember that word and the letters for the Initial Assessment 😉😂

What do you do if you find someone on the floor not moving?

1. DOCTOR - Danger! Check your environment firstly. Are there any dangers to you or others? Put on a pair of gloves.

2. RESPONSE - Check for a response. Use your voice. Speak clearly and loudly. "Are you ok?" "Can I help you?"
Use a firm tap on the collar bone..."Can you open your eyes?"

3. AIRWAY - Open the airway. Use the head-chin-tilt lift. Place one hand on the forehead, two fingers under the chin and tilt the head backwards. Look inside the mouth for any obstructions.

4. BREATHING - LOOK, LISTEN and FEEL for up to 10 seconds. Place you ear and cheek over the mouth and nose to feel for warm breath. Listen for any unusual or strange sounds in breathing. Look down the body to see if the chest is slowly rising and falling.

There is much more that we teach and take into consideration when we check to see if someone is OK. Come and find out more with us. You can help to SAVE LIVES!

🔷️ INFORMATION NOTICE! Calling all schools, teachers, parents and carers in England….

There are currently 8,500 schools in England with a defibrillator that are not registered on The Circuit, the national defibrillator network, meaning the emergency services can not see them and 999 call handlers won't be able to locate them in an emergency.

A defibrillator on school grounds could save a life - but only if the emergency services know it’s there and for every minute that is delayed, there is a 10% drop in the chance of survival.

Before the Christmas holidays, along with the British Heart Foundation we are urging every school to check and register their defibrillator on The Circuit.

Whether you’re a teacher, parent, grandparent, or carer, or first aid instructor (yes, we check locally) check if your local school’s defib is registered at https://www.defibfinder.uk/

If it’s not, you can help by encouraging them to take this simple, life-saving step.

Defib finder uses data from The Circuit, the national defibrillator network, to help you find information about the nearest defibrillators to you.

🔷️ DID YOU KNOW...in September 2025 The UK Resuscitation Council Guidelines were reviewed and published. What are some of the changes?

Check it out! Thumb on thumb chest compressions for infant CPR. Many providers were beginning to teach this before the guidelines were stipulated. So why this? Does it mean using two fingers for chest compressions are no more? Absolutely not.

The review of guidelines means that adjustments can be introduced to increase better outcomes from effective CPR. Not everyone can provide two fingers for chest compressions on an infant...arthritis for example could impede someone being able to do this. Two fingers or thumb on top of thumb is sufficient enough to provide compressions at a third of the depth the chest on a infant from birth to one year.

It is a First Aiders responsibility to keep up to date with any changes in first aid. Not sure of the changes? Check in with us. Why not book a refresher course into 2026? We provide Emergency Paediatric Infant & Child First Aid ( 6 hours learning) certifications.
