๐Ÿ”ท๏ธ IN SEPTEMBER 2025 LAST YEAR the UK Resusciation Council Guidelines were reviewed. There are often changes in First Aid and this is why training providers would remind and encourage First Aiders to keep up to date and refresh first aid learning and skills. This is the First Aiders responsibility.

๐Ÿ”ท๏ธ It is not stipulated to complete yearly refreshers in the UK upon any workplace or Paediatric First aid course or qualification. It is recommended as good practice. We have attended our awarding body's 2025 Resus Guidelines Update and we are continuing with further training and updates early into 2026. Awarding bodies and First Aid Training Centres are all now implementing new criteria within courses, including new skills training. AG First Aid Training is committed to ensure the quality assurance within all our training following the Resus Council Guidelines and all of our courses follow and deliver the learning from the new guidance.

๐Ÿ”ท๏ธ If you accessed and trained in First aid after September 2025 your training is NOT disregarded or your certificate in-valid. The First Aid changes and information presented now within courses and additional or new criteria, now reflects the first aid practice of the new guidance, and so you may find training providers embedding new training content, information, skills practice and learning, also with new learning equipment and resources.

If you have any questions regarding First Aid and the new guidance contact us. We are here to support! We are here to consult with! We are here to keep you updated! โ˜Ž๏ธ๐Ÿ’ป๐Ÿ“ž

โš ๏ธโ€ผ๏ธ๐Ÿ™ Please remind your young people Cambridgeshire โš ๏ธโ€ผ๏ธ๐Ÿ™

Weโ€™ve had reports of young people playing on frozen lakes in the county this afternoon. With the cold weather set to last another couple of days, and for some young people, schools not going back until midweek, please can parents and guardians remind their children of the real dangers of playing on lakes when iced over. The ice may not be as thick as it appears and the water if they fall in will be freezing cold and could send the body into cold shock so they become unable to swim to safety.
If you do see anyone in trouble in the water, dial 999 and provide your What3words location - that way we get get help to you as quickly as possible. Download the What3Words app so you always have it handy and encourage your children too as well.

๐Ÿ”ท๏ธ WE HAD US A BIT OF A SITUATION on our third day of the First Aid at Work Level 3 at Hills Road Sixth Form College.

Scenario based training. Working as a team. Responding quickly. Identifying priorities. Effective communication. Giving instructions. Taking the lead. Using bystander assistance. Calling the EMS. Identifying dangers. Getting a response. Checking the airway. Checking for breathing. Early CPR. Early Difibrillation. Assess for injuries and check environment. CPR handover.

It was all thrown in today! Repeated practice. Building confidence. Being effective! IT TOOK US 45 MINUTES to master after reviewing and improving each step! ๐Ÿ‘

Well done everyone!

๐Ÿ”ท๏ธ IT'S A FIRST AIDERS JOB to reassure and gain the trust from casualty so that they can effectively provide First Aid treatment.

We spend a lot of time building up the first aiders confidence to use their voice as their most effective tool. During our First Aid at Work 3 day course at Hills Road Sixth Form College this week, we practice effective communication techniques. We even do practical tasks which encourages the first aider to explain actions to be taken and even in the role of the casualty, consider how trust is gained.

Have a look at these pics.

Pic 1. Checking the response of the casualty...you can be physical with a firm tap on the collarbone.

Pic 2. A gentle hand on someone's shoulder whilst reassuring the casualty.

Pic 3. Leaving the embedded object. Not removing and ensuring the casualty doesn't remove the embedded object themselves.

Pic 4. Injuries to fingers or hands leaves the casualty unable to treat themselves.

Pic 5. A very worried casualty. Use of distraction techniques and carefully placing bandages to provide pressure and hide away Injuries.

Pic 6. Gaining eye contact whilst communicating. Asking the casualty to remain as still as possible and to focus on you...the first aider.

Pic 7. Using a bystander to help. An extra pair of hands to get the job done is always helpful.

Pic 8. Continual monitoring of the casualty and checking regularly.

Pic 9. Being aware that the casualty with a head injury could be aggressive towards the first aider. Looking out for changes in behaviour.

Pic 10. Providing support. It can be tricky to place a sling on someone's broken arm if they are reluctant to let go supporting it themselves.

Pic 11. Having someone approach to flush out the eye with saline solution...you have got to gain the casualty's trust.

๐Ÿ”ท๏ธ EMERGENCY FIRST AID AT WORK. What do we want to achieve? Adequate Chest Compressions or effective Chest Compressions?

Firstly seeking early access to the EMS (Emergency Medical Services) * New UK Resuscitation Council Guidelines. There is much more emphasis on this and the chain of survival.

Our training focus is on the practical elements of the Blended course. This gives learners lots of hands-on skills practice which we repeat to ensure understanding of priorities, procedure and competence. You won't just have a quick go at CPR on the manikins. First Aid is simple to learn and there are important techniques to ensure effective Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation. We focus on building people's confidence with first aid to help save lives ๐Ÿ‘
