Every act of kindness can help change a life — especially the lives of those who need a little extra support.

As a live-in carer, you do so much more than help with everyday tasks — you make a difference that lasts far beyond the moment. You might be the reason someone feels safe making a cup of tea again, confident enough to take a walk in their garden, or comforted by a friendly face at the end of the day. You help people stay in the homes where their memories live — surrounded by family photos, familiar smells, and the routines that make them feel like themselves again.

It’s the small things — sharing a laugh over breakfast, listening to a favourite story, or helping someone video-call their grandchildren — that bring dignity, joy, and connection back into their lives.

If you have a heart for helping others and want to make a real difference, join us this November and bring kindness into every home.

Chris faced a tough road with significant challenges in mobility and independence; he wasn’t sure if he’d ever walk again.

Before Christmas, he was relying on a double-up care package from our Wokingham branch just to feel safe and comfortable at home. With the unwavering dedication of our carers and a personalised care plan, Chris has made remarkable progress. 🌟

Today, he’s back in his computer chair, a milestone that means so much to him as it symbolises not just physical recovery, but renewed independence and confidence.

Our carers didn’t just provide physical support; they built trust, offered companionship, and created a sense of comfort that helped Chris stay motivated every step of the way. From carefully listening to his goals to ensuring continuity with familiar faces, their kindness made all the difference. 💜

Chris’s story is a powerful reminder of what compassionate, person-centred care can achieve, helping people regain control of their lives and feel truly supported at home.

Thank you to Chris for trusting us and to our amazing carers for going above and beyond.

💜Championing Dementia Care at Westminster 💜

We’re incredibly proud of Honor Chalmers (Clinical Manager) and Helen Thompson (Learning and Development Specialist), who recently presented at Westminster conference on the Next Steps for Dementia Diagnosis, Care and Research in England.

At this influential event, Honor and Helen shared how Helping Hands continues to champion compassionate, person-centred support and training for those living with or supporting individuals living with Dementia.

The conference also explored the NHS 10-Year Plan, highlighting key areas such as early diagnosis, integrated care, and workforce development. Honor and Helen discussed how these goals align with our mission to deliver even greater impact and empower more people to live well through high-quality, compassionate care. 💜

Talking about Alzheimer's and dementia doesn’t have to be daunting. Fi, our Epsom Branch Care Manager and Alison, our Area Care Manager, note that it’s not a taboo subject; it’s important to let families know they’re not alone.

With both personal experience and extensive training, our dedicated carers and friendly team truly understand the challenges families face. We know how comforting it can be to hear, "I’ve been there too."

We’re here to listen, offer support, and guide you through every step of the journey.

This week marked International Day of Care & Support, recognising the incredible contribution of both paid and unpaid carers to our communities.

It takes a special kind of person to be a carer; someone with patience, compassion, and empathy at their heart. 💜

Every day, we see these qualities in action across our teams:

Maria, Branch Care Manager at our Newport branch, who recently took part in her local community’s Para-Try-Athlon.✨

Sophie, a carer from our Swadlincote branch, who completed the Alzheimer’s Memory Walk in honour of those affected by dementia.✨

Ami, from our Derby branch, who has dedicated the last five years to caring for others with warmth and commitment.

To all our carers and team members, thank you for making a difference every single day. 💜

We’re incredibly lucky to have carers like Ami at Helping Hands. For the past five years, she’s been a source of kindness, comfort, and strength for our customers and their families ✨

As a night-time carer, Ami is there during the quietest hours — bringing calm and reassurance to those who need it most. Recently, while supporting one of our end-of-life customers, Ami showed the true meaning of compassionate care. Throughout the night, she gently comforted both the customer and their loved one, offering professional support and genuine human connection.

When our team read her notes, we could picture her there — quietly holding a hand, offering reassurance, and ensuring that no one felt alone. It brought tears to our eyes and reminded us what care with heart truly looks like. 💜

Thank you, Ami, for all that you do — and for the difference you make, night after night. 🙏
