When nine-year-old Daley learned about food banks in a school assembly he wanted to help – so he called in at our Boldon store with his mum Hayley to spend £100 of pocket money he'd saved to buy essential supplies for the foodbank at St Aidan's Catholic Academy.

Hayley, who shops at the store each week, said: "Daley is so kind-hearted he will do anything for anyone. We are so proud of him – he is amazing. He loved going round the store; it was like being on Supermarket Sweep! It's a lovely store."

When colleagues at the store heard of Daley's actions they invited him back in so they could give him a gift voucher and present to say thank you. The store's community champion Tracey said: "The store and food bank were so deeply moved by and proud of Daley's contribution. We were all in awe by the sheer amount of food he bought. He really is a local hero." And the school said: "Daley's generosity will make a real difference to families in our community. His kindness truly embodies the spirit of giving. Thank you for being an inspiration to us all."

A huge thank you to all our generous customers and colleagues who’ve helped us raise £3,106,401 for this year’s BBC Children in Need appeal.

The money raised will support the Fuelling Potential Programme, allowing BBC Children in Need to help combat holiday hunger by providing children with a meal whilst they enjoy fun activities at a BBC Children in Need holiday session to help boost their health and wellbeing.

Bakery colleague Jo from our Arrowe Park store went out of her way to make sure a little autistic boy got a chocolate cake with his photo on for his birthday.

The cake had sold out when the boy's mum called in to get it, so Jo took her phone number and said she'd give her a call as soon as one came in. There was a delivery the next day and Jo immediately put one aside and called the customer.

The lady was so impressed with the exceptional service that when she picked up the cake she brought Jo a bouquet of flowers and a thank you card which said: "Your gorgeousness has really uplifted me, you've been such a big help." Jo said: "The lady was so made up when I phoned, but I was just happy to help. I've done it a few times for people. When she came in with the flowers I was gobsmacked; it was such a nice surprise."

When a regular customer had a tumble on her way into our Leek supermarket and hurt her shoulder our colleague Lorrisa stepped in to help – dropping off the lady's shopping at home and driving her to A&E so she could get checked out.

Lorrisa booked the lady, who's in her 70s, into A&E and stayed with her until her husband arrived, before going back to the store. She said: "When her husband returned from the hospital he called in to thank me and the store for helping. He appreciated that I’d recognised her as a regular customer which made her confident in me running her home and going in her house. He said that she'd damaged her shoulder and collarbone. Thankfully, she didn’t need surgery. She's still sore, but is recovering.

"We are lucky that we have a lot of local customers here which we recognise and chat to. I am fully confident any of us would have done the same. It’s part of the reason we have so many regular customers. It’s nice to help when you can."

Six-year-old Teddy loves lending a hand when delivery driver Tony from our Derby store delivers to the family home – and he's such a great help that Tony's given him his own Asda high-vis jacket, name badge and lanyard to make him feel part of the team.

Teddy is high-functioning autistic and his mum Bonnie says Tony's kindness has made a huge difference. She said: "Tony is a really lovely soul. He always has time for Teddy, and makes his day as he lets him help him. He goes out of his way to show Teddy how it's done. Teddy now even knows what order the crates go in. He takes his time with Teddy, he doesn't rush him and always praises him. Tony has restored my faith in people; he's an absolute credit to Asda. Teddy wears his Asda jacket with pride. It's given him so much confidence and really brought his sparkle back. Every time the Asda delivery comes, Teddy wears his jacket and name badge."

Tony said: "Teddy's a lovely little lad. He was over the moon when I gave him his jacket. His mum said it made his day. I love my job as every day is different. I love meeting people, and helping them. I really enjoy it."

It's a real family affair at our Ashford store where husband and wife Paul and Tracey work together with their son Lewis and Tracey's children Sophie and Bradley.

Tracey is a section leader on George and has worked at the store for 26 years, while Paul is a warehouse colleague and started two years after Tracey. They met working at the store. Sophie is a home and leisure colleague and has been there for 13 years, Bradley has been a service colleague for seven years, while Lewis is a chilled team leader and has been at the store for four years.

Tracey said: "We've been together for 22 years now. We just started talking and it went from there, so it was a real Asda romance! We all live together except Sophie as she'd got her own family. We try not to talk about work when we get home! We all get on really well, and have been at the store so long now that we are part of the furniture."

Bradley says they all love working together "It's cool to have them all here in the store, it keeps us all close knit." And Sophie said: "There's a great friendly atmosphere here and everyone is lovely. I enjoy the different variety of jobs here – I love doing the Christmas aisles."

Only two days after completing her first aid training, Debbie from our Sittingbourne store was called to do CPR on bakery colleague Tara who'd collapsed with an angina attack.

Debbie was helped by fellow first aider 19-year-old Tyler, who calmly relayed advice and instructions to her from a 999 call handler. Tara said: "I'd like to say a massive thank you to them both for what they did on that day. If it wasn't for them I don't know what would have happened. Having first aiders in the store is just so important. I was putting cookies on a shelf and all of a sudden I got a pain in my chest, going down my arm and I just blacked out. I don't remember much of it at all."

Tara spent 17 days in Medway Hospital where she underwent various tests and scans. She's now back at work, but is on medication. Debbie said: "I passed my first aid training on the Thursday and Tara's episode was on the Saturday – two days later! I wasn't expected to use that part of my training. I thought I'd just be doing cuts, grazes, burns that sort of thing. When I was doing the compressions I was actually crying as it was so upsetting as I've known Tara for a long time. I'm just glad that she was okay."

Both Debbie and Tyler have been nominated for Asda service superstar awards for their actions. Asda Sittingbourne store manager Shah said: "I'm incredibly proud of both Debbie and Tyler for stepping in and administering CPR. Their calm and decisive actions were a testament to their training and compassion and we are all grateful and proud for their efforts to help our colleague."

We're bringing back the Winter Warmer £1 meal deal in our Asda Cafes to support older people during the colder winter months.

The meal deal is available from November 1st until the end of February and offers people aged 60 and over the chance to enjoy soup, bread and unlimited tea and coffees for just £1 in Asda Cafes nationwide.

Our community champions are also inviting and encouraging many local over 60s groups and individuals to use the £1 Winter Warmer meal as an opportunity to come and chat to others. Last year, Asda’s Christmas community tracker laid bare the lack of human interaction and conversations millions of older people suffer in the run up and during the festive period, with one in 10 not sure they will speak to anyone between December 15th and January 1st and one in 10 over 60s said they’d gone to a supermarket simply to speak to another person.

Jordan Cummings, Buying Manager, Cafes and Concessions at Asda, said: "We know winter is set to be incredibly hard for thousands of pensioners as they continue to worry about how to keep themselves warm in the face of rising living costs and on a fixed income. Last year alone we sold over half a million meals showing the vital need for this initiative. We hope the Winter Warmer meals will continue to be just as impactful as last year across the winter months for those who need it most."
