Connection in Herbal Medicine (Part 2)
One of the aspects I find so so important in Herbal Medicine is how it can bring connection and awareness back into the body, cultivating a deeper relationship and appreciation for yourself.
Herbs can help you feel empowered in your healing & in your body.
The modern world, with its diagnoses and prescription pharmaceuticals, can externalises our imbalances. By giving them a name, a diagnosis, it can make us feel like there is this ‘other’ in our bodies- that the diagnosis is separate to us, an enemy invader- something which then needs an external substance to ‘get rid of it’.
And of course that can lead us to feel like we don’t have control over our bodies, they are working against us, they are letting us down.
But this simply isn’t true- and this way of thinking only serves to make us unhappy and reliant on prescription medications that only just help us get by.
Here’s the truth- your body is designed to repair, regenerate and heal itself. We are highly advanced, self-preserving, intelligent beings.
Pharmaceuticals work by suppressing your symptoms.
Herbal medicines work by supporting your body’s natural processes.
Sometimes we just need a little extra help to do what we are designed to do.
Our aim as herbalists is to help your body repair itself- to HEAL from your illness, and bring balance back into the body.
So let’s reframe that idea that your illness is your body working against you.
Your body wants to thrive, to heal and repair- but it can only do this if it has everything it needs.
A car can’t run without fuel.
A herbalist can assess your health, see where and why there are imbalances, and can give you herbs to help.
And with the right fuel, your body can repair and heal itself.
Isn’t that amazing - isn’t that something that should be celebrated & respected!
Through healing we can learn to love & respect ourselves.
Herbal medicine can help us reconnect 🤍
