Amy Griffiths has been a dispensing optician for under a year
“What I enjoy most about being a dispensing optician is the deep satisfaction of truly helping every customer. I thrive on being the specific person they can rely on for expert advice and solutions. The role constantly challenges me to think outside the box and develop creative solutions, often involving options that aren't immediately obvious.
A crucial part of this is determining the absolute best lens selection for the patient's individual needs, which sometimes requires me to source specialised lenses from external suppliers to achieve the perfect outcome. There is also the immense fun and enjoyment in the dispensing process itself. I love helping customers find frames they truly love, and the best part is taking the time to truly get to know all the customers. It’s being able to take the time and sit down to understand their lifestyle, hobbies, and interests, especially when we share common interests.
I love being able to have a proper, engaging conversation that makes the experience personal and helps me tailor their visual solution perfectly. I especially enjoy working with children, transforming the potentially scary experience of a sight test and choosing glasses into a fun, engaging adventure. It is also deeply rewarding to support the parents, helping them understand and confidently manage their child's specific visual needs.
Beyond the frames and lenses, I value being able to offer comprehensive guidance, from understanding and meeting their specific visual requirements to providing ocular health advice. Ultimately, being able to advise and support customers through their journey, while also being a strong support for my team, is the best and most rewarding part of my profession.”
