Ahead of the roadworks at Coryton being completed in the coming weeks, we wanted to share with you some images of the bridge that forms part of the main entrance to our new Velindre Cancer Centre.
These pictures, taken in 2023 when the bridge was completed, show the route into our new home, which is scheduled to open in spring 2027.
Designed with patients, families and staff at the heart since the beginning, the nVCC will offer a calmer, more welcoming environment that supports wellbeing alongside the world-class treatment Velindre is known for.
We’ll operate one of the largest radiotherapy units in the UK, with 10 cutting edge linear accelerators across the nVCC and the Nevill Hall Radiotherapy Unit.
We’ll keep you posted on the progress of the roadworks at Coryton, and if you have any questions get in touch with the team at contact.velindre@wales.nhs.uk or leave us a comment below.

Our new Velindre Cancer Centre is designed not just for more patients, but for better outcomes, more innovation, and a stronger, more connected cancer system across Wales.
It’s part of a wider transformation of cancer care across the Trust, including the brand-new Velindre @ Nevill Hall Chemotherapy Unit.
The nVCC, alongside units across south Wales, will help more patients receive the right care at the right time and closer to home where possible.
The nVCC reflects our ambition not just to meet growing demand, but to shape the future of cancer care - working in partnership with partner health boards to integrate services and transform clinical pathways. We will operate one of the largest radiotherapy units in the UK, with 10 state-of-the-art linear accelerators (eight in nVCC and two in the Velindre @ Nevill Hall Radiotherapy Unit).

We wanted to let you know about some more upcoming changes to the roadworks at Coryton.
As part of our planning permission, we’re required to improve part of the road layout on Longwood Drive, adjacent to the Coryton interchange, to create better access to our new cancer centre, scheduled to open Spring 2027.
Night work is scheduled for February 19 and February 20 from 8pm to 5am.
There will be single-lane traffic, and four-way temporary traffic lights will be in place to safely manage traffic.
Additionally, between 12.00am and 5am on February 22, the Longwood Drive roundabout will be fully closed.
Further road closures, the same as on February 22, will also take place on March 1 and March 2 from 12.00am to 5am.
These closures are outside of business opening times, and the area will be manned to allow access to delivery and emergency vehicles. This will be the conclusion of the roadworks on Longwood Drive roundabout.
We appreciate your patience, and the team is working to keep disruption to a minimum.
If you have any questions or require further assistance, Knights Brown asks that you please contact talktous@knightsbrown.co.uk / 07818 432183

Fel rhan o'n caniatâd cynllunio, mae'n rhaid i Felindre wella rhan o’r cynllun ffordd ar Longwood Drive, wrth ymyl cyfnewidfa Coryton, i sicrhau gwell mynediad i'r ganolfan ganser newydd, sydd i fod i agor yn Nhymor y Gwanwyn 2027.
Mae gwaith nos wedi cael ei gynllunio ar gyfer Chwefror 19 a Chwefror 20, o 8pm tan 5am.

Bydd cylchfan Longwood Drive ar gau'n llwyr rhwng 12.00am a 5am ar 22 Chwefror.
Bydd mwy o ffyrdd yn cau, fel ag ar Chwefror 22, ar 1 Mawrth a 2 Mawrth o 12.00am tan 5am.
Bydd hyn yn digwydd y tu allan i oriau agor busnes, a bydd staff yn yr ardal i ganiatáu mynediad i gerbydau dosbarthu a cherbydau brys. Ar ôl hyn, bydd y gwaith ffordd ar gylchfan Longwood Drive yn dod i ben.
Nod Knights Brown, ein contractwr sy'n gwneud y gwaith, yw ceisio creu cyn lleied o aflonyddwch â phosib, a rheoli mynediad lle bo modd.

Today is World Cancer Day - a day to reflect and look ahead 💚
At Velindre, we’re doing more than responding to today’s needs. We’re building for the future with our new Velindre Cancer Centre (nVCC). Our new home represents the biggest opportunity to transform cancer care for people across Wales, now and for decades to come.
Purpose-built spaces will improve privacy, dignity and comfort, while modern layouts will make it easier for patients to move through their care.
Nearly twice the size of the current Velindre Cancer Centre, the nVCC has been designed to support more complex patient needs and enable advanced treatments to be delivered safely and effectively.
From design to operation, the nVCC leads the way in sustainable healthcare. It is the first all-electric hospital in the UK, uses renewable energy and has been designed to minimise environmental impact as much as possible.
When our new home opens in spring 2027, it will help more patients receive the right care at the right time and closer to home where possible. We’ll have improved access to clinical trials and expanded clinical capacity to support our patients to live longer, better-quality lives.

Mae'r CGFn wedi bod ar flaen y gad ym maes gofal iechyd cynaliadwy o'r cychwyn cyntaf, a bydd hyn yn parhau tan y bydd y ganolfan yn agor ac yn weithredol. Dyma'r ysbyty trydan cyntaf yn y DU, mae'n defnyddio ynni adnewyddadwy ac wedi'i gynllunio i leihau'r effaith amgylcheddol gymaint â phosibl.

A huge thank you to everyone who attended our Crafternoon.
We came together for an afternoon of crafting and conversation to make handmade items and create a collage that’ll be displayed in the current cancer centre on World Cancer Day, February 4.
We also made green crochet hearts, which will be shared as symbols of awareness and support on World Cancer Day at the cancer centre.
The event brought together Velindre staff, members of the Sacyr team, Ray of Light Wales Cancer Support and local residents, giving people a chance to meet, participate, and learn more about our new Velindre Cancer Centre project.
Our nVCC will deliver better outcomes through world-class cancer treatment, enhanced diagnostic capability and greater access to innovation, training and research. The nVCC opens in spring 2027 and reflects our ambition not just to meet growing demand, but to shape the future of cancer care.

Diolch yn fawr iawn i bawb a fynychodd ein Prynhawn o Grefft.
Daethom at ein gilydd am brynhawn o grefftio a sgwrsio i wneud eitemau wedi'u gwneud â llaw a chreu collage a fydd yn cael ei arddangos yn y ganolfan ganser bresennol ar Ddiwrnod Canser y Byd, 4 Chwefror.
Gwnaethom galonnau crosio gwyrdd hefyd, a fydd yn cael eu rhannu fel symbolau o ymwybyddiaeth a chefnogaeth ar Ddiwrnod Canser y Byd yn y ganolfan ganser.
Daeth y digwyddiad â staff Felindre, aelodau o dîm Sacyr, Ray of Light a thrigolion lleol ynghyd, gan roi cyfle i bobl gyfarfod, cymryd rhan a dysgu mwy am ein prosiect Canolfan Ganser Felindre newydd (CGFn).
Bydd ein CGFn yn darparu canlyniadau gwell gyda thriniaeth ganser o'r radd flaenaf, gallu diagnostig gwell, a gwell mynediad at arloesedd, hyfforddiant ac ymchwil. Mae'r ganolfan newydd yn agor yng ngwanwyn 2027 ac yn adlewyrchu ein huchelgais nid yn unig i ateb y galw cynyddol, ond i lunio dyfodol gofal canser.
