A huge thank you to everyone who attended our Crafternoon.
We came together for an afternoon of crafting and conversation to make handmade items and create a collage that’ll be displayed in the current cancer centre on World Cancer Day, February 4.
We also made green crochet hearts, which will be shared as symbols of awareness and support on World Cancer Day at the cancer centre.
The event brought together Velindre staff, members of the Sacyr team, Ray of Light Wales Cancer Support and local residents, giving people a chance to meet, participate, and learn more about our new Velindre Cancer Centre project.
Our nVCC will deliver better outcomes through world-class cancer treatment, enhanced diagnostic capability and greater access to innovation, training and research. The nVCC opens in spring 2027 and reflects our ambition not just to meet growing demand, but to shape the future of cancer care.

We recently welcomed pharmacy students from Cardiff University to see the site of our new Velindre Cancer Centre.
The students were shown the construction site, followed by a presentation and discussion with colleagues from our pharmacy department.
The visit was organised by Professor Andrew Westwell, of the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences at Cardiff University and Velindre University NHS Trust Independent Member.
Professor Westwell said: “It was a privilege to welcome some pharmacy students to the site of our new Velindre Cancer Centre. Visits like this are invaluable in helping students understand how modern cancer services are designed and delivered, and the vital role pharmacy plays in patient care.
“By seeing the scale of the development and speaking with our pharmacy colleagues, students gain insight into how innovation, collaboration and technology come together to support safe, effective and compassionate care. We are proud to support the next generation of pharmacy professionals and to share our vision for the future of cancer care in Wales.”
Students on the visit also heard directly from colleagues in the Velindre pharmacy department, who explained the role the department plays in treating patients and how their staff are involved in the design and development in the new Velindre Cancer Centre.
The pharmacy department in the nVCC will include a pharmacy robot and two patient education rooms. A pneumatic system also links pharmacy to other departments for quick and safe delivery of items.
Scheduled to open next year, our nVCC will deliver world-class cancer treatment, enhanced diagnostic capability, and greater access to research and innovation for people across Wales.
Our nVCC has been designed around our patients' needs from day one. With an intuitive layout, state-of-the-art treatment areas, and a dedicated radiotherapy research bunker to expand access to clinical trials, our new home will help transform the care we can provide.
Our new home, scheduled to open in Spring 2027, will be twice the size of our current site and reflects our ambition not just to meet growing demand, but to shape the future of cancer care in Wales.

Yn ddiweddar, croesawon ni fyfyrwyr fferylliaeth o Brifysgol Caerdydd i weld safle ein Canolfan Ganser Felindre newydd (CGFn).
Dangoswyd y safle adeiladu i'r myfyrwyr, ac yna cafwyd cyflwyniad a thrafodaeth gyda chydweithwyr o'n hadran fferylliaeth.
Trefnwyd yr ymweliad gan yr Athro Andrew Westwell, o Ysgol Fferylliaeth a Gwyddorau Fferyllol Prifysgol Caerdydd ac Aelod Annibynnol o Ymddiriedolaeth GIG Prifysgol Felindre.
Dywedodd yr Athro Westwell: “Roedd yn fraint croesawu rhai myfyrwyr fferylliaeth i safle ein Canolfan Ganser Felindre newydd. Mae ymweliadau fel hyn yn amhrisiadwy wrth helpu myfyrwyr i ddeall sut mae gwasanaethau canser modern yn cael eu cynllunio a'u darparu, a'r rôl hanfodol sydd gan fferylliaeth mewn gofal cleifion.
“Drwy weld maint y datblygiad a siarad â’n cydweithwyr fferylliaeth, mae myfyrwyr yn cael cipolwg ar sut mae arloesedd, cydweithio a thechnoleg yn dod at ei gilydd i gefnogi gofal diogel, effeithiol a thosturiol. Rydym yn falch o gefnogi'r genhedlaeth nesaf o weithwyr proffesiynol fferylliaeth ac i rannu ein gweledigaeth ar gyfer dyfodol gofal canser yng Nghymru.”
Clywodd myfyrwyr ar yr ymweliad yn uniongyrchol hefyd gan gydweithwyr yn adran fferylliaeth Felindre, a eglurodd y rôl sydd gan yr adran wrth drin cleifion a sut mae eu staff yn rhan o'r dyluniad a'r datblygiad yng Nghanolfan Ganser newydd Felindre.
Bydd yr adran fferylliaeth yng CGFn yn cynnwys robot fferylliaeth a dwy ystafell addysg i gleifion. Mae system niwmatig hefyd yn cysylltu'r fferyllfa ag adrannau eraill er mwyn dosbarthu eitemau'n gyflym ac yn ddiogel.
Bydd ein CGFn, sydd i fod i agor flwyddyn nesaf, yn darparu triniaeth ganser o'r radd flaenaf, gallu diagnostig gwell a mynediad gwell at ymchwil ac arloesedd ar gyfer pobl Cymru.
Mae ein CGFn wedi'i chynllunio o amgylch anghenion ein cleifion o'r diwrnod cyntaf. Gyda chynllun greddfol, ardaloedd triniaeth o'r radd flaenaf a byncer ymchwil radiotherapi pwrpasol i ehangu mynediad at dreialon clinigol, bydd ein cartref newydd yn helpu i drawsnewid y gofal y gallwn ei ddarparu.
Bydd ein cartref newydd, sydd i fod i agor yng Ngwanwyn 2027, ddwywaith maint ein safle presennol ac mae'n adlewyrchu ein huchelgais nid yn unig i ddiwallu'r galw cynyddol, ond i lunio dyfodol gofal canser yng Nghymru.

We were delighted to welcome Sue Tranka, Chief Nursing Officer for Wales (CNO), and Gillian Knight, Deputy Chief Nursing Officer (DCNO), to the site of our new Velindre Cancer Centre.
The visit formed part of a wider day of engagement, including time spent at the current cancer centre, and focused on showcasing innovation in nursing practice and ongoing quality improvement work.
It also provided an opportunity to share progress on the new Velindre Cancer Centre, which is scheduled to open in Spring 2027 and will play a key role in shaping the future of cancer care in Wales.
Sue Tranka, Chief Nursing Officer for Wales, said: "'I wanted to thank everyone for hosting such a valuable visit for myself and Gill. We were extremely grateful for the time, openness, and warmth shown throughout the morning. It was a real pleasure to meet so many senior nurses and to see first-hand the innovation, commitment, and professionalism across services. The visit provided an excellent opportunity to explore current services and to discuss plans for cancer services as you transition to the new cancer Centre.
"We very much appreciated the opportunity to discuss how services are evolving, including ambitions for care closer to home, treatment models, and how nurse-led research and innovation continues to develop. It was encouraging to see strong nursing leadership and clear alignment of future service plans with strategic direction."

Roeddem wrth ein bodd yn croesawu Sue Tranka, Prif Swyddog Nyrsio Cymru (CNO), a Gillian Knight, Dirprwy Brif Swyddog Nyrsio (DCNO), i safle ein Canolfan Ganser Felindre newydd.
Roedd yr ymweliad yn rhan o ddiwrnod ehangach o ymgysylltu, gan gynnwys amser a dreuliwyd yn y ganolfan ganser bresennol, ac yn canolbwyntio ar arddangos arloesedd mewn ymarfer nyrsio a gwaith parhaus i wella ansawdd.
Roedd hefyd yn gyfle i rannu cynnydd ar Ganolfan Ganser newydd Felindre, sydd i fod i agor yng Ngwanwyn 2027 a bydd yn chwarae rhan allweddol wrth lunio dyfodol gofal canser yng Nghymru.
Dywedodd Sue Tranka, Prif Swyddog Nyrsio Cymru: "Roeddwn i eisiau diolch i bawb am gynnal ymweliad mor werthfawr i mi a Gill. Roedden ni'n hynod ddiolchgar am yr amser, yr agoredrwydd, a'r cynhesrwydd a ddangoswyd drwy gydol y bore. Roedd yn bleser mawr cwrdd â chynifer o nyrsys uwch a gweld yn uniongyrchol yr arloesedd, yr ymrwymiad, a'r proffesiynoldeb ar draws y gwasanaethau. Rhoddodd yr ymweliad gyfle gwych i archwilio gwasanaethau cyfredol ac i drafod cynlluniau ar gyfer gwasanaethau canser wrth i chi drawsnewid i'r Ganolfan Ganser newydd.
"Roeddem yn gwerthfawrogi'r cyfle i drafod sut mae gwasanaethau'n esblygu'n fawr, gan gynnwys uchelgeisiau ar gyfer gofal yn agosach at y cartref, modelau triniaeth, a sut mae ymchwil ac arloesedd dan arweiniad nyrsys yn parhau i ddatblygu. Roedd yn galonogol gweld arweinyddiaeth nyrsio gref ac aliniad clir o gynlluniau gwasanaeth yn y dyfodol â chyfeiriad strategol."
