Want to find out more about our new Velindre Cancer Centre? 💚
Every month, we hold a drop-in session where you can come along and ask the project team questions and learn more about the construction of our new home.
The nVCC reflects our ambition not just to meet growing demand, but to shape the future of cancer care. It’s a centre designed for better outcomes, more innovation, and a stronger, more connected cancer system across Wales.
These informal drop-ins take place on the last Wednesday of every month from 6pm to 7pm.
The next one is scheduled for April 29.
They take place at the Noddfa building, 19 Park Road (just behind the Velindre Cancer Centre rear car park).
Members of the team from both Velindre and Sacyr, the construction company building the new cancer centre, will be there.

Bob mis, rydym yn cynnal sesiwn galw heibio lle gallwch ddod draw a gofyn cwestiynau i dîm y prosiect a dysgu mwy am adeiladu ein cartref newydd.
Mae'r ganolfan newydd yn adlewyrchu ein huchelgais nid yn unig i ateb y galw cynyddol, ond i lunio dyfodol gofal canser yng Nghymru. Mae'n ganolfan wedi'i chynllunio i ddarparu canlyniadau gwell, ac i gyflwyno ffyrdd newydd a gwell o weithio a system ganser gryfach a mwy cysylltiedig ar draws Cymru.

Thank you to everyone who took part in our recent Whitchurch Hospital community workshops.
We arranged the two workshops to bring people together to generate ideas and discussions on the future of the Whitchurch Hospital site.
These sessions are part of Velindre’s ongoing commitment to keeping our community informed and involved as plans for the site progress.
We know that the site holds historical and emotional importance. Velindre University NHS Trust became the legal owner of the Whitchurch Hospital buildings and surrounding land in November 2024, following a transfer from Cardiff and Vale University Health Board. In October 2025, we announced that we had invited interested parties to express their interest in the property as part of stage of the sale process.
The workshops created a valuable space for people from different backgrounds to come together, share perspectives, and explore ways the site could benefit the community.
The ideas generated and the feedback presented will now play an important role in shaping the next stages of this work.
The facilitators brought in by Velindre to run the sessions will produce a report, publicly available, that captures the ideas shared during the sessions. This report will also be shared directly with any potential developers.
The Trust is committed to acting as a responsible landowner and engaging openly with our partners and the community. There will be further opportunities to engage with the process, and if you have any questions in the meantime, please get in touch with the team at contact.velindre@wales.nhs.uk

Ym mis Hydref 2025,fe wnaethom gyhoeddi ein bod ni wedi gwahodd partïon â diddordeb i fynegi eu diddordeb yn yr eiddo fel rhan o gam yn y broses werthu.
Creodd y gweithdai ofod gwerthfawr i bobl o wahanol gefndiroedd ddod at ei gilydd, rhannu safbwyntiau, ac archwilio ffyrdd y gallai'r safle fod o fudd i'r gymuned.
Bydd y syniadau a gynhyrchwyd a'r adborth a gyflwynwyd nawr yn chwarae rhan bwysig wrth lunio camau nesaf y gwaith hwn.

First new Velindre Cancer Centre arts commissions now live 🎨💚

We’re pleased to announce that the first arts commissions for our nVCC have been published.
These opportunities mark a major milestone in our plans to create a contemporary, dignified and healing environment for our patients, families and staff when our new home opens in spring 2027.
Our world-class new centre has been designed around the needs, voices, and experiences of patients, families and staff from the beginning. More than a building that delivers the cancer treatment Velindre is renowned for, our new centre will offer a calm, accessible, and supportive environment.

We wanted to share with you the latest images of the progress being made on our new Velindre Cancer Centre.
Windows are now being installed across various floors of our new cancer centre, scheduled to open spring 2027. Timber-framed, these large windows maximise natural light to help support the wellbeing of our patients, staff, and visitors.
More than just a building, our new home will deliver world-class cancer treatment, enhanced diagnostic capability and greater access to innovation, training and research.
We will operate one of the largest radiotherapy units in the UK, with 10 state-of-the-art linear accelerators (eight in nVCC and two in the Velindre @ Nevill Hall Radiotherapy Unit) alongside our outreach programme across South Wales.
The nVCC reflects our ambition not just to meet growing demand, but to shape the future of cancer care. It’s a centre designed for better outcomes, more innovation, and a stronger, more connected cancer system across Wales.
This work marks another important step forward in delivering our new centre, which has been designed with patients and staff in mind from day one.

Thank you to everyone who came along to our Spring Jambori! 💚🐣
The new Velindre Cancer Centre team provided plenty of arts and crafts to entertain the little ones during the half term break.
We had staff members and their families alongside residents come along and take part in one of our events that makes up our broader Hefyd programme of community benefits. The nVCC is a unique chance for us to undertake new opportunities with our communities. Through Hefyd, we will invest and develop a series of programmes including arts, green social prescribing, sustainability, engagement and children and young people.
A special thank you to our nVCC lead artist Laura Thomas who ran a workshop where people could create their own weave on a frame loom to take home. We'll have similar events coming up in the summer so keep an eye out for more info soon!

Laura Thomas is an established woven textile artist, designer and maker and leads the nVCC’s approach to art, an integral part of making our new home a calm and supportive environment.
Alongside our usual arts and crafts, Laura will be running a workshop where you can create your own weave on a frame loom to take home with you.
This is all part of our ongoing programme of community events during the build of our new Velindre Cancer Centre scheduled to open spring 2027.

The radiotherapy satellite unit is an important part of the wider transformation of cancer services underway by Velindre 💚
This transformation will come together around our new Velindre Cancer Centre (nVCC), which will provide state-of-the-art cancer care supported by a network of improved, more accessible services across the region.
More than just a new building, our nVCC will help deliver better outcomes through world-class cancer treatment, enhanced diagnostic capability and greater access to innovation, training and research.
As we continue to develop the nVCC, scheduled to open spring 2027, these improvements reflect our broader ambition of delivering the very best cancer care, closer to home where possible, for people across Wales.

Bydd y trawsnewidiad hwn yn cael ei adeiladu o amgylch y Ganolfan Ganser Felindre newydd, a fydd yn darparu gofal canser o'r radd flaenaf wedi'i gefnogi gan rwydwaith o wasanaethau gwell a mwy hygyrch ar draws y rhanbarth.
Bydd ein CGFn yn fwy na dim ond adeilad newydd yn unig. Bydd yn helpu i ddarparu canlyniadau gwell gyda thriniaeth ganser o safon fyd-eang, gallu diagnostig gwell, a gwell mynediad at arloesedd, hyfforddiant ac ymchwil.
Wrth i ni barhau i adeiladu’r CGFn, sydd i fod i agor yn nhymor y gwanwyn 2027, mae'r gwelliannau hyn yn adlewyrchu ein huchelgais ehangach o ddarparu'r gofal canser gorau posibl, yn agosach at adref lle bo modd, i bobl ar draws Cymru.

We wanted to let you know that the team behind the new Velindre Cancer Centre has been nominated for another top award.
The Acorn consortium, which is working with Velindre University NHS Trust to deliver our world-class new cancer centre, has been shortlisted in this year’s Partnerships Awards.
The Culture and Diversity Award recognises outstanding achievement in creating inclusive, equitable environments that nurture diverse talent and champion meaningful initiatives across public–private partnerships.
Our new Velindre Cancer Centre will provide us with the space and facilities to deliver world-class treatment, expand our diagnostic capabilities, and strengthen our role in research, innovation, and education. It’s a once-in-a-generation investment in cancer services for all of Wales.
When our new home opens in spring 2027, it will help more patients receive the right care at the right time and closer to home where possible. We’ll have improved access to clinical trials and expanded clinical capacity to support our patients to live longer, better-quality lives.

Mae consortiwm Acorn, sy'n gweithio gydag Ymddiriedolaeth GIG Prifysgol Felindre i ddarparu ein canolfan ganser newydd o'r radd flaenaf, wedi cyrraedd rhestr fer Gwobrau Partneriaethau eleni.
Mae’r Wobr Diwylliant ac Amrywiaeth yn cydnabod cyflawniad rhagorol wrth greu amgylcheddau cynhwysol a chyfartal, sy'n meithrin talent amrywiol ac sy’n hyrwyddo mentrau ystyrlon ar draws partneriaethau cyhoeddus-preifat.
Bydd ein Canolfan Ganser Felindre newydd yn rhoi'r lle a'r cyfleusterau inni i ddarparu triniaeth o safon fyd-eang, ehangu ein galluoedd diagnostig, a chryfhau ein rôl mewn ymchwil, arloesedd ac addysg. Mae'n fuddsoddiad unwaith mewn cenhedlaeth mewn gwasanaethau canser i Gymru gyfan.
Pan fydd ein cartref newydd yn agor yng ngwanwyn 2027, bydd yn helpu mwy o gleifion i dderbyn y gofal cywir ar yr amser cywir, ac yn agosach at adref lle bo’n bosib. Bydd gennym fynediad gwell at dreialon clinigol a chapasiti clinigol ehangach i gefnogi ein cleifion i fyw bywydau hirach o ansawdd gwell.
