πŸ‘ Seated Hockey Fun! πŸ‘

Our residents had a fantastic time getting active and having a laugh with a game of seated hockey! Using a soft beach ball and pool noodles as sticks, teams worked together to score goals, cheer each other on, and enjoy some friendly competition.

This activity is a great way to keep moving, build teamwork, and most importantlyβ€”have fun in a safe and inclusive way. 😊

Well done to everyone who took partβ€”you were all champions today! πŸ‘

Today we wish Jean a very Happy Birthday, she has enjoyed opening presents from her sons who got her the most perfect gifts she loved, reading her cards. She was also sung Happy Birthday from the lovely lady from Forget-me-not Chorus this morning and again this afternoon by staff and other residents when we gave her her birthday cake of a Victoria sponge πŸŽ‚.
Happy Birthday Jean, we hope you had a wonderful day. πŸŽˆπŸŽ‰πŸ₯³πŸŒΈπŸŽ

Tuesdays is hairdressers day, with Leanne.

A visit to her, isn't just about hair, it's about confidence, connection, and quality of life.

As hairdresser days are social occasions, residents chat, laugh and enjoy a bit of pampering together, helping reduce loneliness and isolation.

Looking good often leads to feeling good- it can lift mood, improve self-esteem and even become a highlight of their week.

With a beautiful day, you need to make the most of it when we do. We are lucky to have a garden space where residents can sit down to relax and unwind, to sit and read or enjoy a walk while enjoying the array of beautiful colours of what spring is offering from all the flowers and plants. This is what done grabbed the opportunity to do.

Along as the normal menu, Emma also made some offerings for our residents who have dysphagia.
Food is important for fuel for our bodies, to give us the various nutrients we need.
When someone has dysphagia, especially when at level 4 IDDSI for one of our residents Arthur.
It is hard to adjust to the new diet, as they can miss certain foods and textures, it is why it is important that we make their mealtime experience just as important as those able to eat a normal diet.
Emma, made them
* Vegetable hotpot, layering the different parts, so it still looks like a pie.
* Red onion & goats cheese tart, making special pastry, red onion puree and goats cheese puree, layered up so it looks like a tart.
For dessert a peach cheesecake was made but not with a biscuit base which is not suitable.
The residents feedback was positive. They said it looked good and boy did it taste good.

Today, Emma has been cooking up a storm, and making up extra dishes for the residents to try for the food taster session for our new Spring/Summer menu.
Doing this helps to know whether to include certain dishes onto the menu.
These options were;
*Cheese and bacon turnovers.
* Vegetable Hotpot.
* Red onion & goats cheese tart.
Some dessert options were;
* Stawberry cheesecake
* Blueberry muffins.

The Hotpot and the red onion and goats cheese tart were a big hit and of course the desserts.

Being able to make seize the days happen, makes you feel happy, knowing how meaningful it means to the resident.

This was able to happen today for Florence, from a simple conversation she had with Shanelle a couple of weeks back, and Mandy sending off an email.

Florence mentioned that a dream she had as a young girl, after reading the Peter Pan story, she loved the thought to be able to have a St Bernard dog, she said after 106 years, it never happened and just said she wished she had an opportunity to just see one face to face, other than a picture in a book, or on the TV.

From the email Mandy sent to the St Bernard's Trust, someone there reached out to someone they knew in Wales, to tell them about Florence's wish. Although the couple lived in Carmarthenshire, they really wanted to help and phoned Morel Court and was passed onto Dawn, The couple explained hearing the story and how old Florence was, and only last year losing their grandfather who was 105.5 years, who served in the war, they wanted to help make her wish come true.

The lovely couple brought Winter a female St Bernard the nearly 63 miles, and made Florence's day. It meant so much to her to meet Winter and ask many questions she had about the breed, and I hope the couple get to see this, as you made Florence's day, week and was overwhelmed that you did this wonderful thing for her by traveling all that way. She hopes that Winter enjoyed her walk around the Cliff Tops, before you travel home.

We always try to encourage the residents to say to a staff member of things they would like to do, so we can make more seize the days come true. It is truly meaningful and a joy to see their reactions, when it does.
