We’re considering a small winter welfare initiative to support people experiencing rough sleeping locally.

Cold weather significantly increases the risks faced by people sleeping rough, particularly overnight.

The idea is to assemble practical welfare packs focused on warmth and essentials — including thermal blankets, hand warmers, socks, hygiene items, and small first aid kits for basic wound care — which would be distributed through an established homeless charity.

We’re intending to cover the bulk of this ourselves, but wanted to put a feeler out to see if any local businesses might be interested in supporting — whether through items, discounted products, or a modest contribution. There’s no pressure and no expectation; this isn’t about promotion.

🚨 Public Safety Warning – “Lil BleederZ” Kits 🚨

These kits are being marketed as life-saving bleed control. The truth? They are NOT fit for catastrophic hemorrhage.

❌ The “tourniquets” are venous tourniquets — meant for blood draws, not stopping arterial bleeding. No windlass, no strength. They will fail when seconds matter.

❌ The contents (vinyl gloves, foil blanket, a basic dressing) are first aid only. For catastrophic bleeds you need a pressure dressing capable of real compression — not just a bandage.

✅ Real hemorrhage control = proven gear:
• CAT Gen 7, SOF-T Wide, or SAM XT (CoTCCC approved TQs)
• Israeli / Olaes pressure dressings
• Haemostatic gauze (Celox, QuikClot, ChitoGauze)

⚠️ The danger is false reassurance. People will carry this kit thinking they’re ready to save a life — when they’re not. A catastrophic hemorrhage can kill in under 3 minutes.

🙏 Credit where it’s due: Raising awareness is good. But to be genuinely lifesaving, these kits must include proper tourniquets and pressure dressings. Without them, they risk doing more harm than good.
