New National Guidance and Standards have been published to reinforce the vital role of the Health Equality Framework+ in tackling health inequalities for adults with a learning disability.

NHS Wales Performance and Improvement’s Learning Disability Programme has collaborated with Health Boards in Wales to develop the guidance.

.ITV News has shared an important news story about contact orders. The story looks at the experiences of 45 families who have a relative with a learning disability that have been banned from visiting their relatives or faced restrictions after raising concerns about the way their loved ones are being treated.

This is not just happening in England. We are seeing a growing trend in the punitive use of contact orders in Wales too, often due to a lack of high-quality specialist support and services in the community for people with a learning disability. The impact of contact orders on families and their loved ones is huge, often leading to long-term trauma and this trend urgently needs to be reversed.

Creating a Wales that values and includes every child, young person and adult with a learning disability

We want all people with a learning disability to live as independently as possible in a place that they choose, and to have control over their lives.

We believe that people with a learning disability can achieve this if they, their families and the people who support them have access to the best information, advice, training and support.

We play a unique role in making this happen - through our own services, working in partnership with other organisations, and influencing policy.

How we do this
