Cath, our Behaviour Therapist is getting ready for a session about the Zones of Regulation.
🩵💛💚❤️

Here’s something we don’t talk about enough…

Even therapists.
Even adults.
Even people who look like they have it all together.
struggle to regulate their emotions sometimes.

We get overwhelmed.
We get frustrated.
We snap.
We shut down.

And we’ve had decades of practice.

So when the children we support have emotions that spill out, it isn’t because they’re ‘naughty’… it’s often their nervous system trying to cope.

Regulation isn’t something children are born knowing how to do. It’s something they learn through safety and connection.

Because if adults still struggle to regulate… imagine how hard it can be for a child who’s already been through so much. 💛

Are You Feeling Frustrated Because Your Child’s Progress Isn’t “Perfect”?
When supporting a child impacted by trauma, it’s easy to fall into the trap of comparing their progress to a timeline that just isn’t realistic — especially when setbacks feel big and wins feel small. Many parents feel disheartened or uncertain because healing isn’t linear, and that can make even hopeful moments feel fragile.

🎧 Listen to our podcast Progress vs Perfection — Realistic Outcomes in Trauma | Talk – Ep.12, where we talk about what meaningful progress actually looks like, how to set compassionate expectations, and why celebrating incremental change can make all the difference on your child’s healing journey.

💬 “I want to support them, but I’m not sure how to help them understand their past.”

Life Story Coaching equips adults who play a regular, meaningful role in a young person’s life – foster carers, adoptive parents, guardians, teachers, support workers, or long-term social workers – to actively support Life Story Work. You’ll learn how to explore, reflect, and process information safely, helping young people make sense of their story.

This week CATH has been shining a spotlight on something so important… 🌟 recognising strengths.

Through structured worksheets and thoughtful discussions, children have been exploring what makes them them, from resilience and listening, to sharing and empathy 💛

Watching children pause and say, “I’m actually good at that!” is always a powerful moment. When young people can name their strengths, they build confidence, self-belief and the tools they need to face challenges ahead.

Supporting challenges matters but celebrating strengths is just as important. 💫

🎙️Are You Struggling to Make Family Contact Positive for Your Child?
For children who’ve experienced trauma, contact with family can be confusing, upsetting, or even retraumatizing. Parents and carers often worry about how to balance safety, emotional well‑being, and maintaining important family connections.

🎧 Listen to our podcast Contact & Family Time — A Trauma Informed Approach | Talk – Ep.11, where we discuss strategies to support children during family contact, how trauma can influence their responses, and practical ways to make these interactions safe, supportive, and meaningful.

This month, the CLASS team’s away day looked a little different… 👀✨

Because sometimes wellbeing isn’t another meeting or a new strategy, it’s hitting pause, gathering round a table, and diving into a few rounds of The Mind.

It’s a brilliantly simple introduction to co-operative games for primary-aged children and up and a firm favourite in our team for building connection, trust and a little healthy suspense.

Turns out, sometimes the best way to strengthen teamwork… is to play. 🎲
