πŸ’Š Electronic Prescriptions – We've gone live with EPS!

Did you know you can get your prescriptions sent straight to your chosen pharmacy - saving you a visit to the surgery.

The Electronic Prescriptions Service (EPS) means there’s no need for a paper prescription. Instead, we will securely send your prescription directly to the pharmacy you choose.

βœ… Quicker and more convenient
βœ… Helps reduce paper use (better for the environment 🌍)
βœ… Supports the NHS in working more efficiently

What do you need to do?
Simply let our staff know your nominated pharmacyβ€” we’ll take care of the rest!

You can still order your medication in the same way (NHS Wales App, at reception or through your chosen pharmacy). The main difference is that, in most cases, you won’t receive a green paper prescription form.

Catch-up clinics are being held for teenagers and young adults who have not had an important meningitis vaccination.

Cardiff and Vale University Health Board is holding walk-in clinics for young people in Year 9 and up to the age of 25 who have previously missed their MenACWY vaccination appointment.

Walk-in clinics are being held every Saturday (starting March 21) until further notice at the following locations:
- Barry Hospital, Colcot Road, CF62 8YH (9am-4.30pm)
- Maelfa Wellbeing Hub, Llanedeyrn, Cardiff, CF23 9PN (9am-4.30pm)

Young people aged 13-14 (school Year 9) are invited by GPs in Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan to receive this vaccine as part of their routine schedule but sometimes these appointments can get missed.

The MenACWY vaccine protects against meningococcal disease type A, C, W and Y.

While rare, meningococcal disease can be very serious and require urgent hospital treatment. It can lead to life-changing disabilities such as amputations, hearing loss, brain damage and scars.

If parents of younger children would like information about their meningitis B and pneumococcal vaccination status - both of which are given to children as part of their routine vaccination schedule up to the age of 2 - please call the vaccination service on 02921 841234 (lines open Mon-Fri 9am-4.45pm). You can also book any missed doses with your GP.

🦠 Important Patient Update: Meningitis Awareness

We are aware of a current meningitis outbreak and would like to remind patients about vaccination and what steps to take.

πŸ’‰ Vaccination is the best protection:

Men B vaccine is part of the routine childhood immunisation schedule for babies and young children. You will be invited for these as eligible between 8 weeks and 13 months.

Pneumococcal vaccine also provides protection against some types of meningitis. If you are over the age of 65 years or between 2-64 and in an β€œat risk” group you can contact the surgery to book your vaccine. This is typically a once in a lifetime vaccine.

Men ACWY vaccine is routinely offered from school year 9 up to age 25.

πŸ“… Missed a vaccine?
If you or your child have missed any of the above vaccinations, please contact the surgery or check your vaccination status via the NHS Wales App.

⚠️ Important to know:

Meningitis B and Meningitis ACWY vaccine are not routinely available on the NHS for older age groups. Private providers may offer it, but there is currently limited availability nationwide.

πŸ“± Concerned about exposure?
If you are worried about possible exposure related to the outbreak, please seek guidance via the Public Health Wales.

🩺 Know the symptoms:
Early symptoms can include fever, headache, vomiting, stiff neck, sensitivity to light, and a rash. If you are concerned about meningitis, seek medical attention.

In February, the following appointments were not attended and could not be used for other patients:

β€’ GP appointments: 17
β€’ Nurse appointments: 35
β€’ Phlebotomy appointments: 32

If you’re unable to attend your appointment, please contact the surgery as soon as possible so we can offer it to someone else.

Appointments can be cancelled or rearranged by calling the surgery or through the NHS Wales App.

Thank you for helping us make the best use of our appointments and support all our patients πŸ’™
