📢 CHANGES TO WOUND CARE SERVICES 📢

North Cardiff Medical Centre has always strived to deliver high quality care to its patient population. Over several years, as you may be aware, wider GP funding continues to be reduced with all surgeries feeling this impact. NCMC is no exception to this.

One service provision we have continued to deliver despite these funding issues has been wound care. Unfortunately, the demand for wound care from our surgery has grown significantly and disproportionately to the funding provided, to the detriment of other core services we want to provide for you.

- Wound care in 2025 required 50% of our nursing appointments and was supported by a funding stream that represents only 6% of our annual nursing budget. As you can imagine the situation is sadly no longer sustainable.

As a result, the partnership has made the very difficult decision to hand back all wound care services to CAV UHB with effect from 2nd February 2026. This will now be provided by the health board in specialist treatment rooms with the district nursing team. Should you need to access wound care moving forward you can book this by contacting the booking line on 02920444501.

We understand this may be disappointing to some patients, but please can we remind everyone to treat our staff with kindness and respect whilst they deal with any queries you may have related to this change.

If you have symptoms of Norovirus, it’s important to stay home for 48 hours after they clear.

🟣 Rubella: What You Need to Know 🟣

Rubella is a contagious viral infection that is often mild—but it can be extremely serious during pregnancy.

The short explainer uses the 4Ts framework to highlight the key facts:
✔️ Type – what rubella is and common symptoms, including mild fever, sore throat, swollen glands, and a rash that starts on the face
✔️ Transmission – how it spreads through coughs, sneezes, and close contact, often before symptoms appear
✔️ Threat – why rubella is dangerous in pregnancy, with risks such as miscarriage, stillbirth, and serious birth defects
✔️ Treatment & Prevention – why there’s no specific treatment and how the MMR vaccine provides the best protection

đź’‰ Vaccination is essential to protect individuals and prevent outbreaks.
