🎉 Happy 5th birthday to Digital Health and Care Wales!
On 1 April 2021, DHCW was established as a special health authority.

Five years on, we now deliver 100+ digital services across secondary care, including core national systems for patient care, health service management, diagnostics and the national Microsoft 365 tenancy.

Today we’re sharing some of the milestones from our mission to make digital a force for good in health and care.

Behind the Scenes Hero – March: Elizabeth (Beth) Ilsley 🎉

Meet Beth Ilsley, our incredible Business Support Administrator and this month’s NDR Behind the Scenes Hero!

Since joining DHCW in October 2022, Beth has been keeping the NDR team running like clockwork, managing admin, coordinating tasks, and helping colleagues wherever needed. She goes above and beyond every day, reducing risk, saving time, and enabling the team to focus on what matters most.

Beth is proud of her work engaging ALP participants, running team workshops, and organising team-building exercises. She’s also been acting up as Programme Support Officer, showing her versatility and commitment.

"I’m thrilled to support such an amazing team and help make their work easier and more impactful every day," says Beth.

Thank you, Beth, for all that you do! 👏

Day 2 at ReWired 2026 was packed with insight.
Rhidian Hurle opened with a powerful keynote on delivering digitalisation at a national scale. Sarah Dean spoke about how technology can give staff more time to care. Carwyn Lloyd Jones closed the day with a forward‑looking session on the infrastructure and protection the NHS of the future will rely on.
A brilliant day, and plenty to think about! ✨💭

We’re delighted that DHCW has been featured in a Welsh Government case study celebrating the positive impact of Social Partnership working.

The publication highlights how we’re:

• Working closely with staff and trade unions to co produce our Well-being Objectives and strengthen our culture
• Delivering our Social Partnership Duty Annual Report together with our union partners
• Hosting successful initiatives like our Anti-Bullying and Harassment internal webinars, attended by more than 350 staff

This recognition shows how partnership, openness and shared purpose are helping us create a healthier, more supportive workplace for everyone.

Information about the women’s health hubs and how to access them are included in a new national website dedicated to women’s health in Wales.

We contributed to the work on the new site from conception to production alongside NHS Wales Performance and Improvement, Women’s Health Research Wales at Cardiff University and other partners, with the aim to make it easier for people to find reliable, clinically verified guidance and understand what services and support are locally available to them.

As we celebrate Healthcare Science Week, we’re shining a light on the important work of Clinical Informatics Professionals at Digital Health and Care Wales (DHCW).

Clinical Informatics Professionals play a vital role in improving how health and care services use data and digital technology, ensuring that the voices of the multiprofessional clinical workforce including healthcare scientists are heard to inform data and technology transformation across Wales.

Our Clinical Informatics team is made up of registered healthcare professionals from a wide range of backgrounds. By combining clinical experience with digital expertise, they help ensure that technology works for both healthcare staff and the people they care for.

Their role is to bring real clinical insight into national digital programmes – helping to design and develop systems that support safe, effective, and person-centred care across Wales.

Through professional leadership and collaboration, the team helps make sure digital health services are:

âś” Safe
âś” Ethical
âś” Efficient
âś” Timely
âś” Equitable
âś” Focused on people and their care

Within DHCW, the Clinical Informatics team includes professionals from these key areas:

• Nursing & Midwifery
• Pharmacy & Medicines
• Allied Health Professions
• Medical

By bringing these different perspectives together, they shape digital and data solutions that support healthcare professionals to improve quality and safety of care and experience for the population across Wales.

Clinical knowledge + digital innovation = better health and care for everyone.

Celebrating women shaping digital futures đź’ś

This week, women from across digital, data and technology came together at the Principality Stadium for DHCW's International Women's Day event, "Give to Gain: Women Shaping Digital Futures."

From inspiring keynotes to practical workshops, the day highlighted the power of collaboration, mentorship and allyship in building an inclusive digital workforce for NHS Wales.

Our speakers shared honest reflections on leadership, representation, resilience and the importance of putting people at the heart of digital transformation.

As one consistent message echoed throughout the day: when women give their skills, insight and support to one another, everyone gains.

Thank you to our speakers, everyone who attended and all those working to create a more diverse, confident and connected digital community.
