On World Art Day, it feels right to pause and appreciate the artists who quietly shape our everyday lives.

While visiting the Bologna Children's Book Fair, Kevin Gillis, The Raccoons creator, said: “In animation, artists are everything. They turn ideas into living, breathing worlds. With books, they interpret the author’s imagination, giving shape and feeling to words on the page. With The Raccoons books, illustrator and cover artist, Terry Cooper, did a fabulous job. His creative ingenuity drove the whole project forward.”

We just had to share this lovely video of author Jester Arrow and his daughter Raven enjoying Perky the Pigeon 🐦💛

Illustrated by Terry Cooper, this scene shows Perky chasing her singing dreams with a choir… until she suddenly needs a very quick toilet break 💩😄 — with the unfortunate result landing right on a fellow singer’s head!

It’s funny, a bit cheeky, and full of personality — but also a great little reminder for children to keep going after what they love, no matter what gets in the way (even the slightly embarrassing kind 😉).

It also feels like a perfect nod to World Art Day, a reminder of how much illustrators bring to stories and just how special they make books ✨

Candy Jar is passionate about discovering and nurturing new authors, and offering a fresh perspective on classic genres. We also benefit from knowledge of video production. Covering Wales and the South West of England we are experienced in delivering corporate, promotional and training videos for satisfied clients.
