Thank you to The Lewy Body Society for their support with our brand new middle grade book by the fantastic Peta Hands 🫶🏻
All proceeds are going to Lewy Body and they also have copies in stock direct from their website for those who want to support the charity further 😁
It’s World Book Day and we are proud this newly-published children’s book is raising money to support our work.
Sissy Snagertooth and Phylis is the debut novel by Peta Hands, who wrote the story after her husband was diagnosed with Lewy body dementia.
Ms Hands said: “In 2018, my husband was diagnosed with Lewy body dementia, and I felt so helpless. Writing became an escape from the dreadful reality of my husband’s illness.”
The story centres on Herbert Long, a boy with white hair and jagged teeth who is sent to live with his grandfather. There, he befriends an eccentric bull terrier named Phylis. Together, they go on an adventure to rescue 94 stolen tortoises.
Lewy Body Society’s patron and author Rob Rinder said: “Sissy Snagertooth and Phylis is a wonderfully funny, big- hearted story full of imagination and mischief. It fizzes with charm, surprises at every turn, and leaves you smiling long after the last page.”
Shaun Russell, head of publishing at Candy Jar Books, said: “I was captivated by the story’s warmth, humour, and heart. It’s a unique and powerful way to raise awareness of an often-overlooked disease.”
The book is available in bookshops, with all profits going to the Lewy Body Society.
