🚨 Sepsis is a life-threatening condition caused by the immune system overreacting to an infection or injury. Knowing the symptoms can save lives.

A child may have sepsis if they are:
· Breathing very fast
· Have a ‘fit’ or convulsion
· Look mottled, bluish, or very pale
· Have a rash that does not fade when you press it
· Are very lethargic or difficult to wake
· Feel abnormally cold to touch

In adults, look out for:
· Slurred speech or confusion
· Extreme shivering or muscle pain
· Passing no urine (in a day)
· Severe breathlessness
· It feels like you’re going to die
· Skin mottled or discoloured

⚠️ Suspect sepsis? Act fast. Seek medical help immediately. Call 999 or head to the Emergency Department at Grange University Hospital.

If you’re worried about an infection but don’t suspect sepsis, call 111.

Could you be our next fantastic Mini First Aid trainer?⛑️

Mini First Aid Cardiff and Newport is currently seeking an additional trainer to join our small friendly team of existing trainers!

Initially this role would involve running some of our award winning 2 hour baby and child first aid classes, but you would also be working towards running classes for children in schools and our qualification courses too.

⭐️About You:

• Ideally you would hold a full current First Aid at work certificate and Paediatric First Aid Certificate (or be willing to get them). It would be fantastic if you already hold a level 3 teaching and training qualification (or be willing to work towards it).
• Applications are particularly welcome from qualified teachers with experience working in primary school settings, as our early years and kids classes which are held in schools across the region are very popular.
• Applications are also welcomed from those with a first aid/medical/nursing background.
• You need to be a confident communicator and passionate about helping people of all ages learn vital life saving skills.
• You must also have a full driving licence and car, and be happy to cover classes across Penarth, Cardiff, Newport and Torfaen.

⭐️ In return we offer:
* Excellent rates of pay
* Plenty of support and ongoing training and development within our small friendly team
* Flexible work
* Feel good factor and job satisfaction going home from a class knowing that you have taught people how to save a life!

Please note this would be a self employed freelance trainer position, and you would be responsible for your own tax and national insurance. This is ideal for someone who is looking for flexible work on their own terms. It may suit someone who already works part time, but is looking to add to their income or someone who is already self employed with another income stream.

The working pattern is quite varied, but really good weekend availability is essential, and there will be some weekday work too along with occasional evening classes. Please note I run a small business- this would not be a full time role but is likely to grow over time. Ideally I’d love someone long term who would work with me with increasing their responsibilities and hours over time.

If you are interested, please drop me a message or email me at linda@minifirstaid.co.uk to express your interest and to find out more! If you know friends who may be suitable for this role, please tag them or share this post with them and help to spread the word!

Every year, thousands of infants need medical care for poisoning from products commonly found in and around the home.

Items such as cleaning products, cosmetics, medicines, alcohol and gardening products.

If you are planning some spring cleaning in your home over the coming weeks, make sure you keep products in a secure location, in high cupboards or locked storage so that little hands can’t access easily. Also be careful when you are in the middle of cleaning, that you don’t leave the cleaning product sitting anywhere that could be reached by your child.

Poisoning can happen after swallowing, touching, or breathing in a harmful substance.

Symptoms may take a few hours or days to start, so it's important to get medical advice quickly if there's a chance you or someone else could have poisoning.

*Symptoms of poisoning can depend on what caused it, and may include:

Feeling sick or being sick
Diarrhoea
Feeling sleepy
Blurred vision
High temperature, or feeling hot, cold or shivery
Confusion
Difficulty breathing
Seizures (fits)
Loss of consciousness

If you suspect your child might have swallowed something toxic:

⚠️Get medical help immediately, call 111 or 999
⚠️Don’t let your child drink anything
⚠️Don’t make your child sick
⚠️If you know what they have swallowed, try to take a sample to hospital
⚠️Residual chemicals on the skin should be rinsed with plenty of water
