Eden Valley Hospice and Jigsaw, Cumbria's Children's Hospice provides care for adults in the local area and children across Cumbria with life limiting illnesses. The hospice has a 12 bed adult in-patient unit with eight single en-suite rooms and a four bed room. The home from home environment creates a relaxing atmosphere for patients and families with each room overlooking the recently transforme

d walled garden. The Day Hospice provides care for up to 15 people a day, four days a week. Most days the sweet smell of freshly baked cakes fills the Day Hospice as patients, nurses and volunteers exchange stories about what has happened since they last met. Jigsaw provides care and support for children and young adults from throughout Cumbria. Every day, Jigsaw is filled with laughter and enjoyment as children and young adults take part in a wide range of colourful, creative and sensory activities. The annual cost of providing our services is over Β£3million, with only 27% received from the NHS. The kindness and generosity of the local community raises over Β£2million each year through fundraising events, collection boxes, legacies and much more.

Gillford Park Wildcats and their coach, Katie Adams, took on an epic virtual challenge from Brunton Park to Wembley - and back again (an epic 303 miles!)

But what started as a 303 mile journey quickly turned into something even bigger, as the team kept going and completed a 719.9 miles by walking, running and cycling throughout February! ⭐

They raised a fantastic Β£1,020 to support hospice care in memory of Katie's gran and grandma, who were cared for at Eden Valley Hospice.

Well done Wildcats - you should be so proud! Your incredible donation will help us ensure that no family has to face difficult times alone. πŸ’™

Before Easter, pupils from William Howard School visited Jigsaw to deliver a collection of toys, games and books kindly donated by students, staff and families! £80 was also donated, which was raised by students who baked and raffled a cake at Christmas ⭐

The donation of toys means so much more than a kind gift. They will help create moments of joy, comfort and smiles for children and young people when it's needed most, and for families, they can offer a moment of happiness during a difficult time. 🧑

We'd like to say a massive thank you to everyone at William Howard School for your kindness and generosity. 🧩

"Hospice care is about making every moment matter, both for patients and for the people who love them. I see how vital it is that the quality of care we provide brings comfort during what is often a very challenging time," says Katie, Hospice Doctor at Eden Valley Hospice and Jigsaw.

"Taking part in Stars to Sunrise is really special, because the care we provide at the hospice is only possible because of the dedication and generosity of our supporters. Being able to take part last year was a reminder of how much support from the community means to us, and the real difference it makes to our patients and families."

πŸ’™ Join us for Stars to Sunrise and help make every moment matter.

Β£108.52 will fund four hours of specialist nursing care in the hospice's Adult Inpatient Unit, which is why the fundraising target for the challenge is Β£100. So, when you climb under the stars, Every step you take towards sunrise on the summit of Skiddaw turns your miles into meaningful care for people when they need it most.

Speaking up for hospice care in Cumbria πŸ’™

Today, Eden Valley Hospice and Jigsaw's Chief Executive, Julie Clayton, was interviewed to highlight the pressures hospices are facing and the need for fair and sustainable funding for hospice care.

Julie highlights how vital hospice care is locally – and how rising costs and long‑term funding pressures are putting that care at risk.

Hospice care isn’t just about end-of-life. It’s about living well, with dignity, comfort and choice – and ensuring that support is there for families when they need it most.

The interview will feature tonight on That's TV Cumbria Freeview Channel 8 at 6pm... πŸ“ΊοΈ
