📣 Public Consultation 📣

The first public consultation on the St Cuthbert’s Design Code will take place at the following locations between 2pm and 7pm on:

▪️ Tuesday 22 November at Carlisle Racecourse, Durdar Road, Carlisle.
▪️ Wednesday 23 November at Creighton Rugby Club, Sycamore Lane, Carlisle.
▪️ Thursday 24 November at Cummersdale Village Hall, Cummersdale.

The events will seek public views and input on key themes and locations, to help inform the content of the future Design Code.

St Cuthbert's Garden Village is taking part in a national programme to develop a design code for the area. More information is available on this page.

Heritage at Risk 2022

Today, Historic England publishes its annual Heritage at Risk Register for 2022. The Register is the yearly health-check of England’s most valued historic places and those most at risk of being lost forever as a result of neglect, decay or inappropriate development.

On World Town Planning Day, on 8 November every year, planners and communities all over the world come together to celebrate how good planning improves the lives of people and benefits society at large, creating places where to live, work and play together.

Argentinian professor Carlos María della Paolera started World Town Planning Day in Buenos Aires in 1949.

This year for World Town Planning Day, the RTPI will focus on resilience and how planning is key to enabling cities and communities to respond to the shocks and stresses of our time, creating place-based, integrated and inclusive solutions.

📣 Cumbrian Coal Mine Decision Delayed 📣

A decision on whether to go ahead with a new coal mine in Cumbria has been delayed for a third time.

The decision was expected by 8 November, but it has been pushed back until after next week's COP27 climate summit in Egypt.

A ruling on a coking coal mine in Cumbria had been due in July but was then put back to August.

📣Public Consultation - Alston Conservation Area Character Appraisal and Management Plan 📣

The public consultation will run from Monday 31 October to Monday 12 December 2022.

Eden District Council are seeking the public's views on this document, prior to it being adopted. They are particularly interested in understanding why you think the Alston conservation area is of special interest and what opportunities you think there are for enhancing the conservation area. The Council are also seeking views on the changes being considered to the boundary of the conservation area.

📣 Copeland Local Plan Submitted for Examination 📣

The Copeland Local Plan 2021-2038, comprising the Publication Draft (January 2022) and Addendum (July 2022), was formally submitted to the Secretary on Friday 16th September for independent public Examination.

Caroline Mulloy BSc (Hons) DipTP MRTPI has been appointed by the Secretary of State as the Inspector to conduct the Examination into the Local Plan to determine whether the Local Plan is legally compliant and sound.
