Unfortunately we have been made aware that there is a rumour that Virginia Lodge is closing so that it can be repurposed as housing for immigrants and refugees.

I can categorically state that this is not true. Obviously, as already announced, Virginia Lodge is sadly to close, but there are no plans for it to be repurposed in any way. It will remain a family residence, as it has been for the last 35 years. There are no plans other than ensuring that our residents and staff are able to move on with minimal disruption.

Virginia Lodge is closing simply as yet another casualty of the crisis in elderly health care in this country. A very real crisis, that is affecting every single family in this country. A very real crisis, that has been caused by a succession of politicians who have spent their time, energy, and tax-payers money doing anything but attempting to address the decline in services, infrastructure, and support that has ultimately forced us to close.

I find it shameful that at a time when this very real crisis is taking place, there are persons in this community who choose to spread outright and baseless lies in order to provoke and promote their own agenda. Were you to spend your time trying to actively improve your community instead of spreading malicious cruelty and lies online, this country would be a much better place.

Again shame on anyone who chooses to use our loss, and the loss of what has been a loving home and a community asset for 100s of vulnerable elderly people, to spread these outright lies.

It is with deep sadness and a heavy heart that we announce the upcoming closure of Virginia Lodge Care Home on 9th September 2025.

This has been a very difficult decision to make, and not one taken lightly. Since my family opened our doors in 1990, we have had the immense privilege of caring for hundreds of residents and their families. Over the past three and a half decades Virginia Lodge Care Home has not just been a place of care, it has been a home filled with love, dignity, laughter, and lasting memories. I will be eternally proud of the hard work of myself, my parents before me, and all the staff who’ve been through our doors as well as those who stand with us today, for trying to improve the lives of the elderly in our community.

Our commitment has always been to provide the highest quality of care, and we therefore feel that now is the time to bow out, whilst things remain on a high note. Please take the time to read our latest inspection report from our governing body, the CQC, published on 18th July 2025.

We feel honoured that we have been able to serve our community for the last 35 years. Thank you to staff past and present for your tireless dedication, compassion, and professionalism. To the families who entrusted us with their loved ones, thank you for your confidence and support. And to our residents, thank you for letting us get to know you, for enriching us with your friendship and company.

Though our doors will soon close, I know the legacy of Virginia Lodge will live on in the many lives we have touched.
